Pros
I started in August of 2019, excited to be working somewhere with so much local legacy and history, also 3rd gen employee basically. A lot has changed since then, and I wish it were for the better. However, the 401k, health insurance coverage, annual wage increases, and bonus (all exist because of the Union) are truly the reasons to stay. Branch life can be fun depending on where you end up. Also for any prospective Union employees, getting involved in the union was the best decision I ever made.
Cons
In my 6 years here I have seen and heard a lot, more recently post departure, hearing from both salary and union employees alike that things are not getting better, I am reminded why I left to begin with. There are zero resources (besides some telehealth sessions) for neurodivergent employees or employees who struggle with their mental health, and they are treated more as a nuisance than anything (Leadership needs educated on these matters). Lack of time off flexibility makes it difficult to maintain work/life balance (unless you are salary) especially because vacation cannot be used as needed in most cases, even though it is generous, personal time is restricted to a full work week until you are there for some time (5 years, in which case if you are Union you get an extra day). Management is incompetent, with most promotions stemming from who you rub elbows with instead of how hard you actually work and how good you are managing. Zero career development resources. I know people who have worked there much longer than I, that haven't been given the opportunity to advance due to outside hires (Especially for management). Community involvement has changed and is now basically a mutual business agreement instead of actual community involvement. New CEO has changed a lot. Toxic corporate environment that fosters laziness and mean girl culture vs actually supporting and developing their employees. It has gone from small town credit union to big commercial bank overnight it seems, and I feel the heart has been taken out of this place. I am quite saddened to know my experience and to know that a legacy that is very personal to my family is quickly becoming a "profit" not for profit credit union. Lastly, the anti union mindset is quite sad, as stated in my pros, if not for the union a lot of the benefits that make it worth staying for would not exist.
