Pros

Working at Edwards AFB is like visiting a small city. There are over 15,000 people assigned here in various jobs just like any other town of this size. Whether an engineer, carpenter, jet engine mechanic or child-care specialist there is a position for you. It is a chance to see Aerospace history flying every day in the skies above. This is truly the place where the "right stuff" has been invented, tested and perfected for decades. Lots of different jobs for everyone. I've enjoyed my 21 years here and couldn't think of a better place to work, except maybe the beach! I've seen space shuttle landings, the B-2 and C-17 when they were brand new and still being tested. Currently we have the F-22, F-35 and B-21 flying our skies daily!

Cons

It is kind of remote but that also means a lot of urban type problems don't happen here either. Real estate costs are kind of high if you are coming here from another state. If you are coming from Los Angeles then this is a bargain comparatively speaking.

Pros

The Air Force Test Center is a mission-driven organization with leadership that truly listens and responds to its workforce. Innovation is not just welcomed here, it’s actively encouraged across the enterprise, creating an environment where ideas can flourish and employees feel empowered to make meaningful contributions. The alignment between organizational structure and mission priorities is strong, and there are real opportunities to engage in strategic planning and process improvement that impact national defense.

Cons

While the location is somewhat remote and the climate can be challenging due to heat and dryness, these factors are environmental and not reflective of the organization itself. However, they may affect lifestyle preferences or access to amenities for some employees. Public transportation options are limited, so commuting typically requires a personal vehicle.

Pros

Job Security: Working for the government provides unparalleled job security. I feel confident in my role and am able to plan for the future without worrying about layoffs or downsizing. Comprehensive Benefits: The Department of the Air Force offers an excellent benefits package, including health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off. The Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS) is particularly attractive, providing a defined benefit pension, Social Security, and the Thrift Savings Plan (TSP). Opportunities for Advancement: With a large and diverse organization like the Department of the Air Force, there are numerous opportunities for career growth and advancement. I'm able to take advantage of training and development programs, which help me enhance my skills and move up the career ladder. Sense of Purpose: Working for the Department of the Air Force gives me a sense of purpose and fulfillment. Knowing that my work contributes to the safety and security of our nation is a constant motivator and source of pride. Diverse Work Environment: The Department of the Air Force is a melting pot of different cultures, backgrounds, and experiences. I have the opportunity to work with people from all walks of life, which broadens my perspective and helps me become a more well-rounded individual.

Cons

Bureaucratic Red Tape: Like any large organization, the Department of the Air Force has its share of bureaucratic processes and procedures. However, I find that these are generally in place to ensure accountability and transparency. Limited Flexibility: As a government employee, I have to adhere to strict schedules and protocols. While this can be limiting at times, I understand the importance of maintaining a structured work environment.
