Engaged Employer

Left because no one here knows how to actually communicate - Account Executive Disruptive Advertising Employee Review

Pros

Payroll was processed on time, which is unfortunately one of the few reliable things here.

Cons

• The lack of transparency affects everything across the organization. • Direct questions about campaign direction are met with vague responses about “upcoming clarity,” while no one actually seems to know what is going on, or information is intentionally withheld. • Managing client relationships becomes impossible when leadership keeps decisions fragmented and unclear, leaving employees exposed when they cannot explain basic choices to clients. • Information rarely reaches the people who need it, whether due to incompetence or intentional filtering. • Priorities can shift weeks earlier without notice, leaving teams to find out long after work has already been done. • The most frustrating part is how normalized this behavior feels, as if keeping employees in the dark is an acceptable way to operate.

Pros

As a newer employee at Disruptive, I've felt really welcomed and supported by my team, which has been nice. It’s definitely a fast paced environment, but that’s pretty typical in the agency world and not something I see as a negative. One thing I appreciate is that Disruptive takes the time to understand the “why” behind client goals which makes the work feel more meaningful. It feels like there is a real effort to provide the right resources and support to succeed. I’ve also found the DU courses to be valuable from what I know about them so far.

Cons

None that I have experienced so far

Pros

Pretty good break room snacks.

Cons

The CEO here is emotionally unstable, a master manipulator, and involved in every aspect of this company. Employees at every level from account managers to executives are constantly stressing about his approval, and can never get it. He's fired, "managed out", or lost every talented employee that has walked into this company with his emotional bullying and lack of true humility. You can see the way he deals with people in his compulsive and unapologetic response to every single review here on Glassdoor - the fake responses of "ah I'm sorry you had a bad experience. We're working to make things better, thanks for sharing!". That is every interaction I ever had with him to a T. Full of platitudes and fake sincerity, thanking you for sharing, and then proceeding to tell you why you are failing at your job (or even more manipulatively saying "I've failed at my job because I should have never hired you for this job in the first place" lol. Every meeting that Jake is involved in eventually turns into a group therapy session with him leading out with contrived vulnerability, and then expecting others to do the same. He uses these experiences to push his baby, Disruptive University, on employees, making it seem like if you want to be successful in business you have to engage in this type of group therapy and "self improvement" nonsense. He's somehow convinced himself that his "business success" has anything to do with all the self help books he's read, and that if everyone else did all the same things he's done they would be just as successful. Unfortunately this entire company is an extension of Jake himself. I strongly advise against anyone considering to work here. Every person I've talked to who has left has said what a relief it is to be out from under Jake's thumb, how much less stressful literally any other company is, and how glad they are to be in a normal work environment again where the company isn't treated like a Tony Robbins seminar.
