Pros

Nice people and decent benefits, interesting work.

Cons

Poor communication. Supervisors are often hard to get ahold of, and when you do talk to them, they're often surprised you don't know procedures that were never explained to you. Our department was regularly expected to go without pay because there was no work, once for three weeks straight. It seems like they overestimated how much work they would have and how many people they needed to hire.

Pros

Run professionally with HR department, professional development, clear expectations and annual review process, recognition opportunities and some attempts at creating a corporate community (pot lucks, volunteer days, etc.). Annual increases can be earned, which isn't always the case in government contract work.

Cons

PTO is very low. Some supervisors are very available and advocate for their direct reports, others leave them to languish and don't back them up when there are issues on the federal side.
