You may be convinced that you have job security and that the employer is invested in you and even cares about you as an individual, especially after orientation which will leave you feeling warm&fuzzy as though you are valued and have found an employer who really “cares” about you and your family, however nothing could be further from the truth. They have become excellent at maintaining this facade to outsiders and newcomers despite how many employees have been burned, fired for nonsensical reasons, and treated disrespectfully and disgracefully. It is well known that they are particularly unscrupulous to women, i cannot speak personally to that as I am not female but I can say that I have witnessed it firsthand with multiple female employees. I have a daughter, wife and sister and an enormous amount of respect for women so it sickened me to see how differently women were treated, how few were actually hired and how uncomfortable the often out of control locker room type work environment made it for the few women who were hired. I saw some women have to work twice as hard as some of their male colleagues while also having sometimes blatantly different rules especially when it came to work hours and being able to come and go with much less freedom. Many of the male employees could come late or leave early without a word being said or without permission, but women were not afforded the same luxury, in fact I have witnessed reprimands and even a case of a female being fired for being late...I am glad I told my wife not to apply when she saw a job of interest. The Intentionally fake act they put on pretending to care for their employees both at work and outside of work (including for personal&familial crises and emergencies)creates employees who initially feel lucky to be working for Beans, have a spring in their step and are dedicated to their jobs but very quickly become deeply confused by how they are treated and eventually become angry and resentful...you frequently hear stories of promises given at interviews and time of hiring but how those promises were blatantly disregarded. It’s scary how common and intentional this practice seems to be. It’s unconscionable how a family company in Doylestown could be so ruthless and misleading not only to employees but also to their customers with the same act: getting you to put your guard down and trust them by appealing to your vulnerabilities&weaknesses, very simply, by pretending to be “different” because they “care” about you and your family because they’re just a family too. We all want this, to be cared about and to have others look out for us, our families and our best interests. They exploit these needs very well with both their employees and customers...do not expect to be treated any differently than the customers they try to hoodwink just to make an extra dime. After the honeymoon period, employees very often seem confused...it doesn’t take long until they feel “owned” by the company, taken advantage of, exhausted, overworked, resentful, and downright miserable but are forced to put a smile on and not question what is asked of you. I have seen this at all levels and across almost all if not all departments, sales being especially awful as far as how they are treated and demeaned. I did not meet one person who was happy working for the company. Any employee not earning hourly pay works long& arduous hours with countless extra hours expected without additional compensation, gratitude or recognition, little to no ability to make plans because of the frequency of staying far past your scheduled hours with no notice and fear that you will lose your job if you do leave when you’re scheduled even for important plans. You will work late on holidays and Saturdays with zero consideration for you and your family, they do not care if a customer comes in at closing time on a Saturday evening, they will make you stay however long it takes with the hope of making one more sale...heck if 3 ppl come in at closing you’ll have to stay for all 3. It is very common to have to stay late in the car business but this is excessive and a complete disregard for employees and their families. Pay: you will make less than at other dealerships but will be told that they make up for it in other ways. They do not, in fact it’s the opposite as I discussed in detail above. Expect to have problems receiving your pay, some have to wait close to 2 months for their first paycheck. Keep a close eye on what you are paid if commission-based for sales and management. You may have your pay docked or withheld for anything they want to punish you for or at least being threatened of this. You will overpay for benefits especially if you are married and have a family-good luck affording health insurance in that case. I could go on and on but bottom line is: do not be fooled with their smooth talk and promises, it is not worth it, the company is notoriously cheap, overworks you, is punitive and almost militant, far behind the times, disorganized, misogynistic/all around terrible place for women to work, doesn’t value intellect, innovation or efficiency but instead places all value on making the most money off of every possible item (almost) no matter what it takes...certainly not a good company to work for unless your values match the above and you like being treated poorly.
