It's a factory of sadness - Manager QVC Employee Review

Pros

In spite of my negative experience, I'm still in awe of the complexity of the business model - and how the amazing people at QVC make it work in spite of the many challenges faced. It's hard to capture in words, but the fusion of broadcast, digital platforms and retail is unlike anything I've every experienced. Nice cafeteria, Starbucks on campus, and good benefits. Compensation can be good, depending on your job code level - but the performance bonus is a double edged sword. It's a nice goal - but when business is down, the motivation to achieve it can introduce a lot of change and thrash into agreed plans/timelines - particularly during Q4 holiday.

Cons

General glacial speed across the board. QVC moves very slowly, and when it tries to move quickly it's quite the train wreck. Design by committee, long approval processes, and last minute changes are just a few of the issues you'll encounter. Doesn't hold hardware and software vendors accountable. The PDR (Performance, Development and Review) process is yet another "toxic log" thrown on the proverbial fire that is burning people out. The ranking system (abandoned by Microsoft) negatively impacts creatives - and only seems to make the company "Win their losers, and lose their winners". Over my five years of employment, morale suffered tremendously. It's frightening how much good talent has left, and sad that those remain feel "stuck". The work used to be held to a very high standard, and the "efficiency experts" have abandoned our variety of visual flavors and gone vanilla across the board. Bullying, favoritism, and legacy thinking continue to be serious problems at QVC. I've seen this before with global companies in such rural locations. The majority of employees are fairly local, and don't want to "rock the boat". Risk taking and sticking your neck out to change things for the better are rare occurrences. Point out an issue, and you'll get tasked to fix it yourself - and I mean ALONE.

Pros

Only pros - wfh and you get a nice discount

Cons

Everything else. Management/corporate have unrealistic kpis. You can only use the rr during your SCHEDULED break. You have to offer a sale to EVERY CALLER even if they are already upset. You can NOT hang up even if the customer is screaming/offending you. My manager once said I should’ve been more patient. Mind you the customer was already using foul language and belittling me. I POLITELY asked the customer to please refrain from using that kind of language. It continued and I told her I would have to release the call. Also you stop getting a raise after 2 years. You cap at $17/hr.
