Pros
- Depending on the type of work, there's plenty of opportunity to build skills and add to your resume - Management is typically pretty relaxed (at least up to the Senior level) - Very flexible when it comes to working hours and remote work - Interview process is not too rigorous
Cons
- Pay is bottom of the barrel, especially if you lack experience or a higher degree - Management gets exponentially more disconnected the higher you go (although in my experience direct managers are often super accessible and easy to get along with) - Since the best engineers can easily be paid much more elsewhere, technical leadership and expertise often leaves, taking with them knowledge and skills critical to execute specific types of work
