Here's the deal. This place belongs to Red McCombs, one of the richest men in Texas. He doesn't rely on the dealership for his livelihood. Great man, texas icon, great friendly managers... run of the mill environment. From a sales stand point, you gotta remember there are 4 major Toyota dealerships in the San Antonio area. You're not offering anything that the guy across town isn't selling at the same price. So pretty much every deal you make is gonna be a "mini" deal($100). The problem with Red McCombs is that corporate office orders the GM and sales managers to hire, hire and hire every week. They hire whoever whenever. So if you're a seasoned salesman starting off to work there, be prepared to stand outside with a 20-35 20 year olds to hound down whatever poor unexpecting soul decides drive up to "look around". Most customers that pull up already have an appointment when they go there so getting "ups" isn't something to rely on. The other problem working there are the hours. You'll be putting 60 plus hours a week here. Hopefully you'll be selling one car a day which is unlikely. Most sales people struggle to hit 9 sales a month. They hire too many inexperienced and novice guys just to keep corporate off their backs. Red McCombs Toyota should focus on developing the talent that they do have rather than losing sleep over trying to beat Universal or Alamo City Toyota. That's why no one in sales stay there long term. The 2 or 3 cats who do well in sales aren't that great at sales at all, but have become a fixture here there but couldn't duplicate their performance if they'd have to change jobs. They just outlast everyone else who quits and keeps all the repeat customers. You'll see the "top performers" buying sales from the rookies the last week of the month just to hit their bonuses. It's just a matter of survival.
