Pros
Good benefits.
Good coworkers, usually.
Decent work-life balance.
Some management is attempting to get better.
Make a difference in others lives every day.
Cons
Very easy to hit a pay ceiling and then be pushed out.
Excuses made for favorite employees behaviors.
Management will push you to take on additional (lead) responsibilities, but refuse to pay you at lead wages or promote you.
Management can be heavily problematic - upper management admits to very backwards thinking, using employees to spy on other employees and report back, using slurs while speaking with partner organizations, pushing back on employee petitions for recycling to be offered, permitting bigotry and bias, encouraging interdepartment spats, etc.
