Pros

• Five years working for this company and I earn almost $10 per hour. Very nice pay for a customer service job. • The location I worked for gave great food in the break room in or around holiday seasons. • You make new friends working here. • My store location is rather small, so I often get "regulars" who recognize me and are extremely friendly towards me.

Cons

• There is a poor work/life balance. You don't have a set schedule, so often times, it's hard to plan anything outside of work because of it. • There is blatant favoritism between the managers/checkout coaches and associates. There would be associates that only worked there for two or three weeks and would already get promoted to service desk and even a checkout coach themselves. • With this new "Fourth In Line" program they have, checkout coaches and especially managers have become more hard on their associates. Sometimes, you have to pull the work of two people at busy, peak hours so you don't have 4 people in your line. (And, if someone gets their groceries for free, either you or the checkout coach gets reprimanded by the manager.) • There is so much gossip within the front end. Associates (and even the checkout coaches) will talk bad about you behind your back or even in front of your face. • When the labor is bad, your hours will get cut. I'm lucky to even get 20 to 25 hours some weeks. • We are open on every holiday now, except for Christmas.

Pros

Generally very nice peeps work here at the Giant flagship store in Phila PA & it is an attractive place to be at, as far as supermarkets go. Customers are also fairly nice.

Cons

Immediate problem is low pay, at least for Front-end, that is less than Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, Aldi & Sprout's... even Acme pays a dollar more & then an additional dollar raise typically after 1 yr of service. Giant management means well but is cheap, imo, which is a reflection of the company's pay ethics, or lack thereof... also, the vibe is more delegating than true managing. Cart guys are treated like a servant class, not seen nor heard from. The work of pushing around 50 lb metal carts over 2 floors & 7 cart corrals can be brutal! Once in this position, you are way too busy to cross train so advancing would mean quitting my current role & starting over with a new department. At the other markets, cross training to keep one engaged & happy is done... but here, once a cart guy, always a cart guy, no matter what management may say, this is the truth, imo.
