Pros

I LOVE working for Upswing! I've been a tutor for over 2 years now, and it works so wonderfully with my schedule as a student. I love all the students I get to meet, and I like how you can tutor multiple subjects, too. They've been so responsive whenever I need help with something.

Cons

Sometimes the work is slow during off-seasons, and if you're a student, the busiest times are when you are also taking your exams.

Pros

Remote work, flexible source of extra income.

Cons

I have worked for Upswing the past 3 years. Rates for asynchrounous tutoring have already been below the market range. This year, they have introduced a very dishonest pay cut advertisted as a "raise" - the first one offered to tutors in their 10 years of being. Where tutors were paid a certain amount per paper, with the hourly rate being cut in half if the paper is 4 or less pages, and full if 5+ pages, tutors are now paid an hourly rate for every 3 papers reviewed. For example, this means that where 82 papers marked as 5+ pages, equaling $15 each, would be $1230, tutors would be compensated 82/3=27.333 times $15, equaling $409.5. To advertise this as a positive shift and pay raise is completely dishonest and frankly, not in consideration of the support provided to students. On top of this, there is absolutely no room to elevate in the company, despite employee loyalty or positive feedback from partners and students.
