Pros
The focus of the agency (public transportation) is inspiring, and the people in doing the Operations work are wonderful, down-to-earth folks. Some of the best leaders I've worked with, up to and including the COO who started his career as a Bus Operator.
Cons
I would not recommend working in the HR Department. Lots of room for a more progressive approach to people management. For a long time, that department was led by someone with primarily a Labor Relations (e.g., union labor contract negotiations) background, not an HR background. This background lends itself to viewing the employee as the "adversary" in a negotiation, rather than as a "partner" to the success of the organization. This shows up in the types of people policies embraced by the People Office, and its leadership. If you are looking for a more progressive place to work from an HR perspective I wouldn't recommend UTA, unless it gets a new tone of leadership from the top.
