Pros

The real people who come to work for Vail Health are wonderful. The views, the hospital rooms and the facilities.

Cons

The majority of the Executive Leadership runs the organization with power instead of positive intentions- instilling fear in their staff and holding a place of power where they will rarely choose to interact with lower levels, partake in rounds, or initiate opportunities for feedback. Or they will as a check box item instead of a genuine effort. There is a lot of positive talk- but the walk and the action is not there. Values are certainly not instilled and encouraged from the top down- as the highest leaders lack integrity and genuine respect for their community and staff. Patients are important, but that is the only focus in the eyes of the business- there is zero importance put on the employee experience or employee life cycle. It’s understood at a foundational level that if you accept a job at vail health you should never speak up (although it’s a company value), but just be happy you have a job (as multiple people told me on my first week) Employees are scared to speak up in fear of retaliation in the valley. Serious feedback is brushed under the rug, and honest feedback is thrown out with the person who delivers it. People are consistently pushed out of the organization for unexplained reasons. Leadership often awards and promotes favored people without necessary requirements or competencies yet dismisses the most foundational request for growth from middle management and below. Pay disparities are always ignored and lower level employees are grossly underpaid while higher level executives look down on the valley from their mansions above. There is no room for growth, unless you have one of the good managers or directors that choose to advocate for you.
