Pros

Good company to get a foot in the door if you want to get into the software world. You will get lots of hands-on experience whether or not you're ready for it. Awesome coworkers, nice office space Pay is pretty good, depending on the position

Cons

Many of the reviews on here seem to be in reference to the old Veracross - the family company that ceased to exist when the company was sold to a private equity firm called BV Investment Partners around 2019. What was once a family company has, over the last few years, become the most soullessly corporate institution I've ever had the misfortune to work for. Prior to 2019, the employees were generally treated as human beings that were part of a team. Following the acquisition, there was a gradual yet obvious change as everything became a metric. It was no longer about having a meaningful interaction with a client and leaving them with a positive impression - it was about getting them taken care of and moving on to the next ticket as quickly as possible to make your quotas. Development efforts on older, heavily-utilized modules languished and bugs piled up as all development efforts were shifted toward creating new, buggier software that we could sell to clients, because that's where the money was. Meanwhile, the software that the schools purchased in the first place started to die on the vine. School clients would often complain that their Account Managers never stuck around for very long - that's because the company, as a matter of policy, will overload their support personnel with more clients than any human being could reasonably support because of their adamant refusal to make any new Customer Service hires. Since 2020, the number of clients has nearly doubled but the size of the Customer Service team supporting those clients has grown by single digits. There have been more Sales hires than Customer Support hires. An absolute bargain basement of an HR department. Do not make the mistake of believing anything that they tell you - independently verify with your manager that what they tell you is true. This comes from personal experience as well as the experience of others. Most HR departments are bad, but I've never come across one that will so overtly try to crush you in the interest of The Company. Their compliance measures are also virtually non-existent. This company makes databases that store personal information about minors and their families, and there is very little by way of security to protect that information. Any employee can access any piece of data from any school at any time. They have been missing several important security certificates for quite some time. Overall, a good company to start your career, but get your experience and get out because they will suck the life out of you in service to their Private Equity Overlords.

At Veracross, our #1 company priority is ensuring our software is secure, our client data is protected, and we comply with all applicable privacy laws and regulations. Our data is hosted on modern cloud infrastructure with industry-leading security and redundancy to protect what matters most to our clients. We have invested and will continue to invest a significant amount of time and resources in maintaining and continually enhancing our security and privacy positions. We always prioritize tangible security over badges and certifications, and. we are consistently adding new protections and monitoring to make sure employees handle client data with care. In the past two years our HR Department has implemented several key improvements regarding compliance, benefits enrollment, and employee onboarding. We continually evaluate our employee benefits to make sure we are providing the best health and wellness coverage for our team members. Over the past few years, HR has led company-wide leadership and manager training, DEI awareness initiatives, and other activities that promote the ideals embodied in our company values of Service, Humility, Excellence, and Inclusion. Our private equity sponsor, BV Investment Partners, has been an excellent collaborative partner providing us with the investment resources to build critical new technology infrastructure (e.g., Salesforce), invest in enhancing our product offerings, and build our functions to ensure Veracross supports our continued double-digit growth. Significant investment in our new infrastructure last year provided well-received 24 x 7 online support coupled with an expanded global support. We continue to focus on providing the highest level of service to our customers while creating a better work environment for all our employees. Veracross has the highest customer satisfaction in our industry. We continue to innovate on our software platform and services to provide an optimal experience for our schools and employees.

Thank you for your review and for the two perspectives. Work-life balance is something we actively protect, and we're glad it held up during your time here. Vertical paths inside consulting roles can be hard to engineer. Wishing you well in what comes next.

Pros

The people are the real answer to why I've stayed. The leaders I've reported to have been consistently strong, and my colleagues across teams operate with a genuine sense of mutual investment. We help each other out. That's not a given at any company, and it's held true here through a lot of change. My role has grown alongside the company, and that parallel trajectory has been one of the more satisfying parts of the job. As Veracross has scaled, new challenges have opened up rather than narrowed. The work has been visible to leadership, and that visibility has felt earned rather than performative. Remote work post-COVID has been handled well. We're back in the office in a limited capacity, somewhere between once a month and a few weeks a year depending on role. The space itself is worth mentioning: open design, collaborative layout, strong meeting infrastructure, and solid tech connecting remote and in-person participants. It's the kind of space that actually supports how people work. The AI story here is worth its own paragraph. We've been rolling out an AI chatbot for our service organization, and the product team has a significant AI initiative coming in the flagship app. What's notable about both is the approach: deliberate, collaborative, and built around learning together rather than shipping something fast to check a box. Cross-functional knowledge sharing has been a real part of how this has happened, not a talking point. The long tenure numbers say something too. Several colleagues have 15-plus years here. The original cohort from the early days is still largely intact. That kind of retention doesn't happen by accident.

Cons

Growth at this scale comes with costs. Veracross has gone through periods of rebalancing, and that has meant losing colleagues who were valued and well-regarded. Those moments are hard, and the reasoning behind workforce decisions doesn't always reach the people most affected by them. For employees below the senior level, that gap between what leadership sees and what the rest of the org experiences can erode trust quickly, even when the underlying decisions are sound.

Thank you for writing your review with the care you did. Ten-plus years is a long time to grow alongside a company and the observations about the team, the AI work, and the long-tenure cohort read as the kind of judgment that only comes from being here through real change. The point about workforce decisions resonates, and we're always working to be clear about the why and be present with the people most affected. The comment about communication lands in the same place. Thank you for the long run, and for being honest about both sides of it.
