Pros

A very small amount of good employees who can turn into lifelong friends. The mission and aspect of the job is amazing but the company it’s self only cares about number. Not the mental or physical health of employees

Cons

“It’s not our fault you decided to have kids”. A quote by a former vitalant manager. I know this is in the past but is still the attitude the directors/management/recruitment all have. They will call you a few hours before you clock in while you are still in a slumber to tell you to come pick up the bus earlier then they had scheduled you. Oh and if you say you can’t get ready for a massive amount of attitude or a guilt trip of the century. This companies standards are not based on how your work performance is, cuz you and everybody else and their moms will get an annual 2.5% raise. Perfect for all your hard work right?? All the overtime you work on a consistent basis. But those who don’t perform to the expectations still walk away with the same exact raise as you, the hard working employee. If you’ve never seen FMLA being used, this company has roughly 60-80% of the staff on it. Some for other medical conditions but a lot for depression and anxiety and stress that the company places on their shoulders. When the director decides to make a new work policy (use Facebook as a form of identification for the donors) the director will not own up to the falsely given information and put it onto our shoulders. Favoritism is key here. Kiss booty or don’t expect to get anywhere. And by anywhere there’s only 2 positions you can rise up to. Or 1 cuz the company only wants to promote from outside the company instead of within. Promotions aren’t about how hard you work for it. It’s about the person you hear telling jokes and laughing in managements office is who gets it. Don’t bother speaking at all or you might get under HR investigations. Let’s not forget. ANYONE can get this job. As long as you graduated high school. If you fail training they will still pass you so it doesn’t cost the company money and affect the turnover rate. The company has been going downhill for years, and puts the blame on the mobile staff instead of looking in the mirror and seeing who the true culprit is. At this rate, this company will not be around for much longer. Or look to sell out.

Pros

The pay was nice and some of the coworkers were great to work with.

Cons

It’s a for profit company hiding behind a non profit mask. They don’t care about their employees or the patients they’re supposed to care for. The coworkers I worked with directly in my lab were amazing, but the people in the reference lab were extremely rude. Heaven forbid you call the reference lab on a Saturday and the on call tech has to come in to work on a stat sample. You instantly become their verbal punching bag, especially if you interrupted their grocery shopping. Policies change randomly and nobody bothers communicating anything properly. We used to get 5.25 hours of PTO every two weeks, then they changed it to 3 hours of PTO. If 1st shift is short staffed, they constantly pull people from 2nd and 3rd shift, leaving those shifts short too. But when 2nd or 3rd shift is struggling, nobody from 1st shift ever stays to help. People also get fired out of nowhere, then they turn around and hire less qualified friends and family members to work in the lab. They’ll fire someone with degree in medical laboratory science and who has been there for 3 years claiming they “don’t meet minimum requirements,” then hire the director’s friend with a computer science degree a week later.
