Pros

Progressive company that makes positive changes to keep current with market trends. Consultants are paid some of the highest commission rates in the industry, and they pay at time of sale rather than on delivered sales. Very important when you are starting your sales cycle. Well defined policies and guidelines throughout the company. Also a diverse work force with great opportunities for women to advance. Quick Team meetings every morning for clear communications, and training 1-2 times per week to stay current on product and process information. If you love being creative and working with a team, this is an excellent place to thrive. My earnings averaged $75,000/annually and ranged from $60,000 to $110,000 per year. Since this is a vertically integrated company, clients cannot buy on line or at another retailer.

Cons

You just have to be able to accept that some clients will walk away from your designs and may choose to purchase somewhere else. It takes a lot of energy and a really positive outlook to ride through the highs and lows of commissioned sales.

Pros

Opportunities and compensation are available should fortune smile upon you. Most of the departments and divisions are so focused on unimportant minutia that those with enough smarts can coast along expending modest effort for quite some time.

Cons

Capricious talent development, opportunities given and taken away without regard to demonstrated performance. Senior leadership completely focused on micromanagement of all other staff levels. No credible long-term planning for major initiatives or programs. A consumer base with an average age of 60+ (no younger generation even thinks about Ethan Allen when they consider their home furnishings purchase).

Pros

There are no pro points in a company that is managed the way this one is.

Cons

The CEO is an intense micromanager to the point he approves every hire and no one has any input whatsoever and must obey including working on days off. He is from China/Pakistan area and runs the company as if it was there and not in the United States. It's a Dictatorship like environment. Salaries are way off because like heads of companies in their world countries, the CEO takes $4.5 million dollars a year in compensation and pays little to the back bone workers in the company who can hardly put food on the table. As a manager, it is daunting, depressive and useless because I cannot use my knowledge and experience to contribute to this great American company. I will soon be departing following many of my colleagues. Managers are like robots in this company just taking orders and being put down and pressed down.
