Pros

*Solid technology. The main products sell quite well (they need to dump the 35+ other products) *Rank and file employees are quite nice. (You will share a common bond with them over the poor working culture) *They promote from within and hire jr level leaders from the outside giving people a shot at roles they wouldn't get at bigger companies (this is because sr. level people aren't willing to deal with the negatives discussed below and they end up leaving) However, this ultimately is a negative for everyone else because the "first time in role" leaders tend to be inept.

Cons

The Cons mentioned on Glassdoor are 100% accurate, not just complaints from fired employees. What it comes down to is, there are 2 classes of employees - those in Ken and Michael's inner circle, and everyone else. To be on the inside you kind of have to sell your soul by not questioning Ken or Michael and just doing what you're told. For this loyalty you are rewarded with salary, stock and bonuses. Everyone else, not so much. Ken and Michael are the very definition of micro-mangers and will not acknowledge when they are wrong. Instead, they hold others accountable for the outcomes of what were clearly poor decisions (the constant realignment, creation and subsequent layoff-off of sales verticals foe example). Because of Ken's obsession with micro-managing irrelevant tasks and his lack of trust in nearly everyone, he has completely failed to deal with the big picture - Palo Alto's marketing and sales machine. In summary, even though the company is successful the culture here is bad, unethical and in some cases possibly illegal. If Ken and Micheal like you, you can get away with anything - harassment, hostile working conditions, even clearly discriminatory hiring practices. All known and permitted by the CEO and CTO. They will fire anyone who complains (more appropriately described as those who question their decisions). There is a reason 2 CMOs resigned after 6 months on the job. A new head of sales left after 3 months and the VP of HR quit all within the last few months.

Pros

Well, I guess working at Fortinet is better than being raped in prison but not by very much. Location is good since I live in Sunnyvale.

Cons

Engineering management is really incompetent and has no respect for people. No PTO. No bonus, Almost every project is a failure, so managers line up scapegoats early.

Run Away from Fortinet - RUN!!

Pros

The hardware is consistently ranked higher than most/all competitors in the SMB arena.

Cons

1. Zero leadership from management. They will tell you they have a plan, but they won't share it. Some good ideas will be squashed by the CEO. 2. Terrible hires that make you question your own abilities, values, and existence on this planet. Management has consistently hired personal friends at director-level positions, giving them enormous salaries to boot. These hires are coming from larger companies and they are not natural leaders. 3. Employees that would rather watch the company lose extremely talented individuals, or even ask the CEO to fire them, just to see their own stock in the company rise. If you're exceedingly greedy, shallow, and self-conscious, you will be perfect for Fortinet. For example: if someone is more skilled than you, then feel free run to the CEO to complain about the person and maybe he'll fire them for you. If not, work your way down the list of C-level execs until someone will do it. People have been let go for no reason other than "management is making me do it". 4. A boy's club where Sales and Marketing gleefully spend the CEO's money on liquor and more. Moreover, budgets are not divided evenly. In consistently mind-boggling fashion, the cheapest departments are cut or laid off to save money. 5. Management has no respect for women, and never will. You will be marginalized, which is normal if you're Chinese, but this is America! 6. HR is full of manipulative liars and will look the other way even when employees are getting physically attacked by others. You read that correctly. You will receive passive aggressive e-mails on a weekly basis from bipolar employees that need to seek treatment. 7. So. Much. More. This is not a company for decent people. If you're a compulsive liar and backstabber, this is the company for you!
