They bent the knee

Pros

Amazing benefits Wonderful compensation package Learning opportunities

Cons

They have bent the knee to the current administration, laying off all their DE&I employees across the U.S. and silencing them. Remove any mention of the word within the company; you can't even acknowledge that Black people are disproportionately affected by medical racism or are underrepresented in clinical trials. When I joined the company, I was proud because they were bold and openly supported increasing the number of people of color in senior leadership. Now, they have a watered-down version of their CDO, which is disheartening to see as the company's transformation. Hopefully, they can return to being progressive and bold, but for now, I don't even recognize them anymore.

Pros

Incredible people-first culture. Genentech genuinely cares about its employees, encouraging authenticity, inclusion, and belonging at every level. Scientific excellence and innovation. Being part of a mission-driven company where the science truly makes a difference in patients’ lives is deeply rewarding. Cross-functional collaboration. The environment fosters open communication across teams, from R&D to commercial to field medical. Work-life balance and benefits. Generous time off, competitive compensation, and support for wellbeing make it a standout in biotech.

Cons

Constant transformation. Expect large-scale reorganizations every 12–18 months. It creates instability and fatigue, and it’s not for those with a weak stomach. Limited upward mobility. Advancement often depends more on navigating internal politics than performance alone. Accountability gaps. Both leaders and individual contributors are not always held to high performance standards, which can lead to inconsistency in team output and morale.
