Pros

I just completed my 20th year at Gerber Life and look forward to the next 20. Too many Pros to list so will summarize: supportive leadership team, opportunity for growth and career advancement, contributing to an organization that truly cares for it's customers and being there for them during difficult times. Supportive (and encouraged) work-life balance.

Pros

There are some very kind, smart and talented people at Gerber Life at all levels. I believe salary/overall compensation to be competitive for this area.

Cons

I can't describe the cons of working here any better than the poster from January 19. My advice is to carefully consider the points made there before making a decision to seek employment with Gerber Life. It can be rewarding - but the cost to you may be too much. It has been very difficult to see what this company does to people. The job market has improved in West Michigan, so weigh your options very carefully. Life is short.

Pros

Excellent benefits, not limited to: generous PTO, decent medical/dental/vision insurance, employer-matched 401k, incentive programs to earn extra money... The environment is mostly friendly, it's a large group of people in close quarters, so you'll get your occasional clash of personalities (if you keep your nose out of these issues, it's really no problem). Very impressive on-boarding program! 10 weeks paid training- an excellent experience.

Cons

It doesn't matter if you're in sales or service- you're in sales. The targets seem reasonable on the surface (in service), but if you get out of the habit of asking people if they're interested in discussing additional coverage at the end of EVERY call you will not meet your targets. If you don't meet your targets, you will have an increasingly unhappy manager, and you might eventually be fired- even if you're exceeding expectations in every other metric they have. The fringe benefits are great, but the wages could be higher based on the amount of mental stress the job puts people through.
