Pros

Learning how to multitask in a stressful environment. Working with amazing students.

Cons

No overtime is granted, no matter how much you work. The pay is slightly above minimum wage for this full time position. There is no quality of life with this position, the hours are horrendous, and vacation time is not allowed during a majority of the summer. As FT staff you still must clock in/out. Constant trainings that require out of state travel. The pay is poor and not livable. The morals and ethics you are trained to adhere too are not applied daily. The teachers a underpaid and under appreciated. Constant paperwork, most of which is unnecessary. Outdated curriculum, accounting, and payment system. You will walk into this position and want to tear your hair out wondering why your coworkers accept such horrible treatment and horrible pay. You will constantly be told to hire teachers - but reprimanded about the payroll budget...which doesn't increase no matter how many students enroll/teachers are hired. Overall this position had a terrible impact on my personal life, mental health, and physical health. The company provides employees with barely enough materials to get their daily tasks done. In this position your morals and ethics will be TESTED! You will witness amazing teachers and coworkers not getting raises, one of the best teachers I worked with didn't get a raise for over 6 years. You will witness employees not being allowed to take lunch breaks but their pay will still be docked for the hour. Certified teachers are not offered a decent pay, therefore a majority of the teachers you interview will leave and your time will always be wasted. It is embarrassing to say the least. Bottom line: Company pinches pennies to a point where it is morally wrong. Employees are often pitted against each other, and any idea you bring to the table will be shot down, no matter how good or applicable it is.

Pros

So really great people that are just stuck there because they are so beaten down they don't think they deserve better

Cons

Having worked for Huntington for a while, I can say that all the awful reviews about this company are correct. I worked with the Huntingtons and can tell you they take PLEASURE in pinning employees against each other. I witnessed the Huntingtons first hand make an employee cry when presenting an idea "You should apologize to all of us for wasting our time with such a stupid idea “ only months later be something they thought of. They are nothing but adult BULLIES. They provide no value short of discovering the brand and should be ashamed of themselves. The executive staff all knows this. They are POWERLESS to stop it short of getting fired. Some of them have been there too long to be able to make a transition elsewhere because where would they go? They can't compete in today’s market. Most of the Oradell staff "grew up" in the system (started working in the centers then moved to Oradell..). Very few outside people who get hired last. Most wake up from being brainwashed to believe you are helping kids when in actuality you are promoting a system as outdated and out of touch as the management.

Pros

The students are wonderful to work with

Cons

All of it. You are salaried for 40 hours/week (Mon-Thurs 10:30-8:30+Saturday 9-1 is what they tell you) you are really there from many days 8:15 until at least 9 pm, and are expected to work Fridays, Saturdays 8-3 and sometimes Sundays if your teachers are not "up to par" or you are short handed which is always the assistant directors fault despite the fact that Huntington refuses to pay certified teachers a decent wage. You are also bullied into working through your 1 hour lunch break that is automatically deducted from your pay. Operations does nothing but micromanage and degrade you day and night sending nasty and demanding emails from 5am until midnight. If your center is not at budget which may not even be realistic your entire staff is expected to work FOR FREE all hours of the night including Sundays to help squeeze every last penny out of parents as possible. And if you are lucky enough to get a few Fridays/Sundays off the center basically falls apart without full time managers there so they will be calling you anyway for the entirety of the day. This is also one of the greediest companies you will ever work for, with the motto "If they cry-they buy!" meaning that if you get the parents to cry for worry that their child is so far behind then they will sign up. Huntington achieves this by administering academic evaluations which are designed to make even high achieving students look like they are struggling and then demand that Center Directors use "urgency" to make the parents worry and convince them that signing up to Huntington-and paying thousands of dollars on the spot is the only solution. If the center director fails to achieve this on any parent that has even inquired to the company, then they are reprimanded as are the entire centers' staff. Not only is it a complete scam that barely helps students-if at all, I have never heard of a company that treats its hard working employees so disrespectfully and it is a real shame that they are still in business.

Dear Former Employee, We sincerely regret that your experience with Huntington was not positive. While we can only respond to what you have noted in your review, we encourage you to contact our corporate office at RotinoJ@hlcmail.com with specific feedback. If there is additional insight that can be presented, we appreciate your willingness to share as we are committed to addressing any concerns and making Huntington a great place to work. With regard to the hours that you worked, all employees are made aware of the schedule requirements prior to hire. As this is a full-time, salaried position it is natural to expect that there may be some hours that you will work outside of what is typically scheduled. In addition, to offset any time that may be needed on Saturdays, Huntington offers a flex schedule enabling staff to work out a schedule where he/she leaves earlier one evening during the week. The Huntington programs work. In fact, we are an accredited organization that goes through an extensive certification process on a regular basis. Our accreditation certifies that the programs we provide to students are legitimate and lead to great results. We have the same accreditation as private and public schools. In just 3 months, our students achieve a combined 2+ grade levels of growth in Reading and in Math -- which is amazing! On the ACT, our students see an increase of 4.2 points; and, on the SAT an increase of 192 points in just two and a half months. For more insight on student success, see what parents have to say about their experience with Huntington - http://huntingtonlearningcenter.com/page/testimonials-academic-skills/ . The bottom line is that we are an industry leader and have helped students achieve success throughout the United States for over 38 years. We pride ourselves in giving each student the best education possible.
