Pros

What should have been an amazing job was, unfortunately, a complete nightmare.

Cons

In my 20-year professional life, having worked for a number of organizations -- big and small, start-up and established, non-profit and for profit -- nothing prepared me for how bad the culture at IDEXX was, including BULLYING. Truly Unbelievable. This was a shame, since in its early years IDEXX was reported as being a great place to work. I experienced frequent and sustained bullying, especially from those in authority. When I left the company, I discovered other former employees who had also experienced bullying across various parts of the company. The HR department seemed to be largely "invisible" -- possibly because they were dealing with so much staff turnover, it felt like they had no time/patience for current employees, making it difficult to feel like you could approach them and be supported. Bullying seemed to be entrenched (and possibly accepted) within the company culture. Since leaving IDEXX and talking with other senior HR professionals, it quickly became clear that this type of behavior would be categorically rejected and promptly dealt with at any company with a normal, healthy culture.

Pros

The company’s products are world class. Product innovation pipeline is strong, and by any desired financial metric the future of the company is incredible. Bullet proof through just about any economy as the bond between humans and pets strengthen.

Cons

For such a progressive company trying to do all the right things for their employees, my situation boils down to having a low quality manager (and next level manager) that stifles personal development. I am someone considered HiPot, but can’t seem to get anyone to truly hear my concerns. I’ve gone through the appropriate channels to try and tactfully voice my concerns, but unless I am willing to directly throw my manager under the bus the message is falling on deaf ears. This might be due to the incredible workload that finance burdens, much of which could be argued as non value added.

Pros

Good benefits, strong hold in market place, friendly coworkers,

Cons

Management rewards themselves first and the scraps go to the folks who get the work done. If you aren't one of the dark haired boys, you can kiss your chances of promotion away- women need not apply.
