Pros

You’ll work alongside some of the most talented and mission-driven people in the industry. The products have potential, and many colleagues truly care about supporting educators and students. Unfortunately, that potential is consistently undermined by ineffective management.

Cons

The most consistent thing at Imagine Learning is inconsistency. Leadership is disorganized, overly sensitive, and largely unequipped to manage teams. Feedback, even when respectful and constructive, is often met with defensiveness, or in some cases, tears. Yes, literally. If you’re expecting emotionally mature leadership that can handle direct communication, you’ll be disappointed. You’ll be working under vague and constantly shifting expectations, and when things inevitably go wrong due to lack of direction, the blame is passed down the ladder. HR is no help. They don’t serve as a neutral party and will almost always side with leadership, even when serious concerns are raised. Reports go ignored, toxic behavior is tolerated, and employees are left feeling isolated and unsupported. Turnover is extremely high. In a single year, over half the team either transferred departments, quit, were laid off, or were terminated - hence the reason there’s been a position posted consistently. The instability is felt daily by the team, but the solution by management is toxic positivity or avoidance. On top of that, there have been multiple rounds of layoffs in the last couple years. They often target the most experienced, highest-paid, or most outspoken employees. It creates a culture of fear, instability, and silence, where keeping your head down feels safer than doing great work.

Pros

Great coworkers, opportunity to make a difference for students. Fairly good work-life balance.

Cons

Senior leadership is incredibly out of touch. Earlier this year, the leadership told everyone that nobody would be getting raises for the second year in a row "because of declining sales", and then they turned around and spent millions of dollars on a shiny new office. I used to love working at IL back before Jonathan Grayer took over, but he clearly only wanted Imagine Learning for the name and not for the people. Most people that were part of IL before the merger were forced out within a year or two. Jonathan Grayer doesn't inspire the employees; he uses fear to get people to do what he wants. He even made "Founder" part of his official job title when he was absolutely NOT the one that founded Imagine Learning (Sue Preator did).

Pros

WFH culture and co-workers are great! Great opportunity for transitioning teachers to gain experience, but you'd be a fool to stay there longer then two years.

Cons

Pay is extremely low for what's all expected from you. Senior leadership needs to retire already. Constantly making decisions without thinking them through. They're building this huge new office in AZ and plan to expand all other offices to transition WFH employees to in person by 2025. No one wants to work in office and people are threatening to quit if it's required. They also keep spending so much money on acquiring companies rather than trying to update/innovate older products that already hold great value to our customers. Layoffs are also very common and they let so many people with great experience and talent go for reasons no one knows. I can only assume they lay off the employees who make over a certain amount, as they never have room in the budget to do anything.
