Pros

Good pay and decent insurance.

Cons

Think about the perfect workplace. Now think the opposite -- that's Sorrento Lactalis. Hostile management, unrealistic expectations, backstabbing office politics, character assasination, forced overtime, blame shifted from management to hourly workers, nepotism, questionable business practices... For years management was giving hams out for Christmas -- despite the fact that many workers are Muslim (don't celebrate Christmas and can't eat pork). It think that says it all. Saw many people walk off the job, suffer stress related disease and even drop dead. Also, the coffee was bad.

Pros

Salary competitive for Upstate NY. Some of the best benefits and retirement plans in the WNY area. Did some nice things for employees such as holiday lunches, holiday hams, improved the cafeteria, etc. for those that work at corporate headquarters. Note: most of these things were in place from the "old" regime pre-2005. The new group has done little to positively advance the company culture or narrative further. High quality products.

Cons

Lots of turnover in senior management since CEO took over in 2006. Been through four marketing directors during the last eight years, including one who just walked off the job. Propensity to take care of French personnel first in all levels of the organization. Most of the senior management both plant and HQ is of French descent. Lack of career pathing and identifying strong performers. Inability to keep pace with the rapidly changing marketplace as big "chess" moves are pondered for years at a time before being made causing the company to lose valuable ground. Innovation is stagnant and not even good enough to be considered "me too." Lack of vision and long term plan on how to compete in America as a leading cheesemaker. Antiquated IT systems that don't talk and cause endless hours of frustration and busy work.

Pros

good pay for hourly staff, but if you move up, the company pays as little as possible. Off the street hires are payed more even if they have no experience.

Cons

Management is know it all and reinvent the wheel when an issue can be solved faster with staff involved, but failures are staff's fault and management makes no mistakes.
