Pros

Good location and you can learn a lot about the inner workings of the logistics field. There are departments with great managers.

Cons

Pay is not good. Behind the times with just about everything. Poor management that’s only focused on metrics rather than results and actually getting things done. Felt like a high school classroom because they would question you if you got up to go to bathroom and shush you when you talked to surrounding coworkers. Never seen anything like it.

Pros

If you are from their "favorite" people then it is worth working for them. Their drivers have no forced dispatch which give them a sense of freedom. Nice offices, adequately equipped. Encourage growth within the company.

Cons

Unfortunately most of the people working there have a very selfish if not dictatorial attitude. They talk and act, as if Landstar is a heavenly made company, never wrong, unmistakable. They are always right; they are never wrong. When it comes for you to claim your right no matter how obvious it is that you are right, they treat you with a chauvinistic and selfish attitude that make you feel as if you are not a human being but a filthy slave of theirs. If you want to take your problem to a higher ranking person in the hierarchy? Well, simply put: it is easier to schedule an interview with God Himself, than be successful in talk to someone who is above the employee you have a problem with... Chain of command is as if it don't exist when it comes to ask for a supervisor to talk to. If someone has a problem that an employee there can't solve and he asks to see a supervisor, they tend to tell you a bunch of excuses in order to avoid you get in contact with their supervisor. Cheap excuses like "I 'll let him/her know for your issue" or "He/she will tell you the same thing I told you" (well let THEM say it to me...) or even worse excuses like "There is no supervisor here-I have no supervisor" are for breakfast. You have to FIGHT in order to prove the obvious and your right in this company. The lack of respect and good manners they treat you with, the irony, the bullying and the inappropriate language, are just some of the characteristics that most of the employees use when you don't comply with what they say or what they try to impose you as "right". They are a 2 speed company: they have favorite agents, favorite drivers, favorite employees. You don't belong to them, you are simply a number, another brick in the wall, a nobody.

Pros

The only reason anyone wants on their own is freedom. Your freedom comes with a high price with this company:(

Cons

Agents lie and cheat the drivers. 70% of their freight never makes it to the load board -- agents hoard the good freight for their trucks or favorite drivers. Landstar charges you fees up the wazoo -- they nickel and dime you for everything. Landstar acts like god when enacting new rules on their whims:( I was here 16 years and wouldn't look at these people again! Actually, I wouldn't be an O/O again because the agents make the money:( I pulled one load that was double brokered. It wasn't paying me great -- about $1400 before Landstar took their cut. I found out how much the load actually paid. That 1st broker took $1000 for what -- making a few phone calls. The system is rigged against the honest person:(
