Pros

Despite the changes over the years, the solid core of Lubrizol veterans are good people. Always helpful. Wicked smart. Work/life balance is good - at least in the area that I work. I generally have the tools and resources to do my job.

Cons

We are in the midst of a demoralizing transition. We've shifted from an executive leadership regime that was home-grown, deeply vested, and very personable; the downside was...a clunky organization and stagnation due to lack of clear and timely decisions. Berkshire Hathaway grew impatient with that regime, and has replaced them with executives who are an entirely different crop. They certainly can make decisions, and have streamlined the organization...but seemed to do in a complete vacuum. They do not appear to listen (nor do they ask). Communication is sparse, vague, and comes up short on authenticity. When they do communicate - it makes me cringe. We are bleeding top talent. We've lost enough talent, that it appears to have a pronounced impact on company health. I enjoy what I do, but there is no trust or belief. So many of us are looking to move on.

Pros

Lots of great people to work with.

Cons

No career growth. All opportunities are being filled by outside hires who have no experience in the additives chemical industry. Legacy employees aren’t really valued which is why you are seeing an exodus of top talent leaving which is impacting the organization when executives who lack industry experience have no subject matters experts to fill in their knowledge gaps. Corporation has had 4 ceos (one interim) in past 3 years. Hiring freezes have put a larger work load on existing employees. New executives are concerned about “productivity” which just a veiled way of saying that they need to cut head count which they have been doing with attrition. This organization had its flaws but it just needed a tuneup not a whole car rebuild.

Pros

Lots of smart employees that try too hard.

Cons

New CEO is rough around the edges and doesn't value employees. She is always the smartest person in the room and reminds you of it.
