Pros

Great work-life balance New CEO cares about the MITRE employees and is vigilant and thoughtful about the future of the company Decent pay (might not be competitive with private sector) Great network with fellow colleagues Incredibly smart and interesting colleagues

Cons

Finding a job within a job sucks Not always on a project that you enjoy No dedicated sick leave (have to pull from your paid time off) Leadership can sometimes be out-of-touch with the lower level employees

Good pay and benefits overshadowed by ineffective management

Pros

Good pay and benefits relative to other companies within the health sector. Depending on the project, you will either have no work/life balance or too much of it. There is rarely a happy medium.

Cons

Middle management (e.g., PMs and DMs) lack skills beyond managing contracts and have very content or technical expertise. Three to four layers of management reviewers on projects and their salaries will kill a budget leaving very few resources for the technical experts to do their jobs. MITRE is also very expensive to the federal government, charging millions of dollars to simply produce poor quality reports.

Pros

No pros to report unfortunately.

Cons

Company lost its way long ago. After 2 years, new president has had no positive impact. There is no leadership or management of quality. Hiring third rate people to fill the gaps, not the exceptional employees they should be hiring. Sponsors no longer differentiate MITRE from SETA contractors. Pay and benefits are below competitive with others in the industry, with endless money to keep too many layers of leadership employed.

Pros

- some great people leading projects or as individual contributors - occasional great work to support - consulting firm-like ability to choose projects when available

Cons

- new CEO retaining and promoting the inept old guard executives - inept executives continue to try to compete with tech industry giants. They pander to congress promising the company won’t compete, but the executives are unable to navigate the market and the company is failing miserably - one third of the company recently laid off - still not enough billable hours for the remaining staff - nearly all current project choices mundane but necessary for company survival - pay below market. With few exceptions, base pay is total compensation - annual raises below cost of living increase for three years running

Pros

Competitive starting pay and retirement match. good mission (in theory). Great work life balance.

Cons

Lost a lot of respect for the company during the four years I worked there. Not much room for growth or change in salary. Everyone (management/ leadership) was better at making the work sound more important than actually doing important, long lasting, impactful work. But that’s often just consulting I suppose.

toxic culture and low job security

Pros

One of the most significant advantages of my time there was the opportunity to collaborate with an exceptional team. Many of my team members were incredibly supportive, welcoming, and dedicated professionals, which created a truly collaborative and pleasant daily work environment.Additionally, the organization offers excellent physical resources. Certain campus facilities and modern workspaces are highly impressive

Cons

Misaligned Leadership: Senior leadership often struggles with business operations, leading to strategic inefficiencies. Low Job Security: The corporate culture offers minimal employee loyalty, with a constant risk of sudden terminations. Resource Misallocation: Massive layoffs and tight departmental budgets contrast sharply with inflated executive bonuses. Bureaucratic Focus: Daily work heavily prioritizes administrative tasks, paper-pushing, and PowerPoint creation over innovation.Below-Market Pay: The overall salary package is uncompetitive compared to industry peers. Siloed Knowledge: Employees are routinely unwilling to share critical information or cross-train colleagues.Lack of Onboarding Support: New team members are frequently left to navigate complex systems alone without guidance. Toxic Environment: The overall workplace culture and leadership styles are fundamentally toxic, creating a stressful atmosphere

Pros

Colleagues are wonderful. Work-life balance is okay (albeit not as great as it used to be).

Cons

After a year of massive RIFs, most folks are doing the work of 2 or 3 people without any meaningful pay increase. Benefits have steadily decreased.

Pros

Decent pay, decent Hybrid work structure, chance to work with some very smart people

Cons

Non-Existent training, Incompetent Mid-Level Management, Upper Level Management who are too busy keeping themselves employed while they cut down a whole bunch of people below them in times of layoffs.
