Pros

Working at Mastercard has been an incredibly rewarding experience. The company truly lives its mission of “Doing well by doing good,” and that ethos is reflected in everything from leadership to day-to-day operations. One of the things I appreciate most is the inclusive and supportive culture. Mastercard genuinely values diversity and inclusion, and it shows—not just in hiring practices but in how people are treated and empowered to contribute. There’s a strong emphasis on innovation, and employees are encouraged to think creatively and push boundaries. The leadership team is approachable and transparent, and they’re always open to new ideas. Career growth is taken seriously, with numerous learning opportunities, mentorship programs, and clear development paths.

Cons

Nothing as such. It is a progressive company.

Pros

Mastercard is wonderfully collegial, and has generous pay and benefits. Six months ago, when someone asked me about work I unequivocally said that I loved my job.

Cons

The return to office policy moved me from considering Mastercard a place I love to work to one I don't. Dictating days of the week back in the office shows a lack of trust for the workforce, despite all the HR-speak otherwise. Having one desk for every two to three employees has made for a Hunger Games office situation. The CEO stating this was because younger workers crave face time has been seen as 'blaming' them--and they argue that this is not something they want, either.

No trust in employees, RTO flip flop

Pros

Stable company, good growth trajectory, kind culture

Cons

Mastercard recently announced a 3 day per week RTO with a bizarre micromanagement clause that average days in office have to include Mondays and Fridays. This follows a 2023 push and very public announcement that teams are trusted here to build their own flex-work agreements and do what works best for them. Without giving flex agreements time to come to life, leadership pivoted and put out an RTO mandate. Employees everywhere are complaining that this is corporate babysitting at its finest. Even before Covid we weren’t being monitored at this level. Mastercard’s leadership approach is proving to be the old school financial institution model that the organization claims to be breaking away from.
