Pros

Good pay in a low cost of living area, flexible hours (can come in anytime before 10am and must hit 40hrs), casual work environment, talented co workers

Cons

Some, but not all, areas of IT use outdated tech stacks Not a con for everybody, but keep in mind that there are few coding jobs in a 45min radius around Eau Claire so many who leave their job at Menards are forced to move or work remote The health insurance is expensive, no sick pay, no 401k matching We used to have two bonuses that were calculated every time they were distributed. But they were cut and replaced with a one time raise which doesn't account for inflation. Developers/engineers in my department aren't involved in the agile ceremonies (sprint planning, sprint retrospectives, etc.), other than giving a weekly update and occasional estimates. Doesn't bother me cause it means more time coding, but not good for career growth. Not sure if this is the case for other departments. We have work from home capabilities, but you can only use them for late night maintenance and on call incidents. You can't use them if you're semi-sick, or if there's a snowstorm, or etc.

Pros

Most of the people here are nice and easy to work with. Hours are fairly flexible and most managers are understanding of having to deal with things outside of work. Profit sharing is also quite nice, but only really incentivizes you to stay 5 years.

Cons

It's pretty clear the company is run by someone who has zero experience in tech and is completely unwilling to learn. Expect to be sitting in a fairly unpleasant office and having to deal with a lot of disorganization between departments. Pay is below the industry average and the benefits are complete trash. Terrible health and dental coverage, no 401k match, no sick days, and a cap of 20 vacation days (3 or 4 of which you need to use during the holidays because they close the office on a few non-holiday days and don't pay you for it). The overall culture here isn't the best either. It's next to impossible to know how well you're performing, and you only get reviews once a year. These reviews tend to be incredibly unhelpful due to the managers having zero clue what's happening in their departments day-to-day. I have gone weeks without talking to my manager because they spend all day sitting in random meetings. Lastly: there is a "boys club" mentality here, especially amongst upper management. I can't say how it is to be a female working here, but I can say I have felt uncomfortable watching how a few of the upper level managers interact with female coworkers.
