Work has direct positive impact on our patients. Management flexibility and direction has been great in the past few years. Far better than in the late 90's/early 2000's.
Cons
Merck acronyms like other companies are notoriously difficult to get straight. They make more 'new' acronyms and organizations without defining. Not a major con, but definitely irritating on the everyday job.
They are a great company to work for. They put their employees first and are always looking for ways to achieve and development people. In the little time I spent there I learned more about business and clinical development thank my 12 years in tech.
Cons
They tend to push a DEI policy instead of promoting the right individuals or hiring the people into the right positions. Sexual orientation should not be flaunted in the workspace and no should be asked to reveal theirs.
Incredible CEO and leader while I was there - Ken Frazier
Lots of resources - training and mentors willing to spend time with you
Great mission - curing cancer, treating many difficult diseases
Cons
Large company, need to fend for your own career
My department was fixated on hiring directors from outside the company over promoting from within. - talent pipeline stagnated. Seems to be fixed now.
