Pros

Smart People Good Business Thinking Ahead Solid Product

Cons

Motive is not a place where women rise and can have a long lasting career. Women leave instead of lead at Motive. It’s a very known issue at Motive but there has been a complete lack of action from the Executive team to change the direction and set an example. - Here’s the breakdown of Women at a leadership level at Motive - Within the Executive Team. 2 out 8 direct reports to Shoaib(CEO) are women - Those 2 include the EA team lead and the Chief Legal Officer - Within the CTO Org, 1 out of 8 direct reports to the CTO are women - 1 female direct report is the head of QA - Within the CFO Org, 1 out of 8 managers whom report into the CFO are women - 1 female direct report is the head of FP&A - Within the CPO org, 1 out of 8 direct reports to the CPO are women - Within the Design Org, 2/7 direct reports are women - Within the PM Org, 0/6 PM Directors/Managers are women - Within the COO Org, 1 out of 8 direct reports to the COO are women - There is a subconscious bias towards women - Women are talked over and talked down to in meetings, not always seen as partners - Women are not recognized publicly for good work or achievements - Women are not seen as leaders or SMEs in their field. For example, when a lead gives a directive, their cross functional partner will often escalate to their boss for the final word - Women are not given the same opportunities to lead and grow their careers as men at Motive

Thank you for sharing your feedback. Your experience is absolutely not what we want for our teammates. We understand that there is work to do to improve the representation of women on our teams and we are committed to creating a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace at Motive. To improve representation amongst our teams we host and sponsor recruiting and learning & development events focused on underrepresented people. Our managers are regularly trained on unconscious bias, inclusive leadership, anti-discrimination, and building trust and psychological safety on teams. That said, we'd like to know more about your specific experience so that we can improve. Please contact us at opendoor@gomotive.com to share your experience further. Thanks again for sharing your experience.

Toxic culture, good business outlook

Pros

This organization’s culture parallels a cult - if you obey orders, sellout your values/ethics, and seek abuse - this place is perfect for you. From a business perspective, they will win. So if you are aren’t looking for career growth, but just want to keep your head down and simply do baseline work - foregoing all sense of self-identity or personality - the job might be right for you.

Cons

Tenure is the only valuable currency here. Blatantly racist, sexist, and homophobic/transphobic behaviors are swept under the carpet. Communications strategy is centered on “thoughts and prayers”, with zero commitment to improve. There is ZERO psychological safety here. It openly thrives on a culture of “impress or fired” mentality. After multiple RIFs, no one should act surprised when another one occurs, because they prefer it that way. Do not join if you’re looking for career stability. HR is rendered useless by a leadership team that proudly devalues its people by dehumanizing the person through a measured productivity transformation, so do not expect any support. People decisions are made inside a vacuum and are heavily biased. Tenured individuals suffer from Stockholm Syndrome-like behaviors from the cult-like culture, craving nothing but validation from their abusers. Whatever good culture they HAD (which tenured folks have no problem screaming loudly about) is long, long gone.

This is absolutely not the experience we want for you or any team members at Motive. We actively strive to provide an environment where team members feel valued and respected. Each of our managers is regularly trained on unconscious bias, inclusive leadership, anti-discrimination, and building trust and psychological safety on teams. Over the past year, we had to adjust our strategy to align with shifting markets. Motive is here as a resource so please don't hesitate to contact us at opendoor@gomotive.com to share additional thoughts and feedback.

Pros

- Fantastic culture that values the opinions of all no matter their role - A leadership team that truly does care about their employees - Fast paced with lots of opportunity for career progression and development - Lot's of success to date, it's amazing to be part of such a winning team - Fair pay, good snacks and a fairly convenient location - Interesting technology, industry and problem that the company is solving - Hard work and effort is rewarded and fairly acknowledged

Cons

- The pace isn't for everyone - Some departments start before 7:00am in the SF office - Expected growing pains which if you don't come with the right attitude/expectation could feel overwhelming
