Pros

I love the products and the fact that the company does something meaningful and important for the people.

Cons

I worked in accounting department for over 2 years. Accounting department did not have good organizational structure which created chaotic and stressful environment for the people who work there. Management did not care about people growth and career. Favoritism was another issue - people was promoted not based on their experience and skills but based on their connection and relationship with the management. This is very unhappy place to work for the people who want to be heard and appreciated at their workplace. It was very toxic environment that I have never seen in any other companies I worked for.

Nepotism is the rule

Pros

Good employee culture Nice people Fairly laid back work pace

Cons

Massive levels of nepotism. Most director and VP levels positions are friends of C level management. There are tons of family members and connected friends that will get promotions before you.

Pros

Mission-driven leadership: the leadership truly wants to help improve patient outcomes. The hiring standards are low - compare the years of experience requirements of Penumbra's postings versus any other comparable posting in this industry. This is a great company to start out in, it's very easy to get your foot in the door. New Product Release Cadence - Penumbra is willing to support a new product introduction cadence that is unmatched in the medical device industry. This is Penumbra's competitive edge, and there's a constant pressure to keep the product release cadence going. Unfortunately, this pressure has begun to turn negative.

Cons

The only type of thing you're not allowed to do at Penumbra is something that could result in a finding during an audit. Is a change or investigation memo using cherrypicked data? Leaving out important details? Explicitly being made to cover up product performance issues? Claiming effectiveness with insufficient evidence? So long as it isn't likely to be caught or challenged by an auditor, you're good. In the words of our Compliance department: "The FDA doesn't usually look at that, so it should be fine." If you've worked at another medical device company before this, you might not last long at Penumbra. Because of this, Penumbra has generally tried to hire people straight out of college who won't feel comfortable questioning "The Penumbra Way".
