A bleak outlook for PNW...

Pros

It varies greatly by department, but my hours are somewhat flexible.

Cons

There is no internal mobility at PNW. You will be offered a very low starting salary, and you will maintain that salary for the entirety of your time here. "Merit increases" are never more than 2%, assuming they aren't in such a terrible budget deficit and you actually get one. There are no written policies or procedures for nearly anything. You can ask 6 different people how they accomplish the same task, and get 6 different answers--even from the processing business department! It is frustrating to work somewhere that is so consistently reactive, rather than proactive. Staff morale is very low because of the treatment they receive from faculty and senior leadership. They are not valued or incentivized to improve so good employees leave and lazy employees stay. The climate between the two "unified" campuses is still tense after more than a year of having been officially joined as one University. Westville staff and faculty and Hammond staff and faculty do not work as a unified team, but rather, they look at each other as enemies. It is exhausting. Additionally, there is no training available for employees on any of the systems used by the University. New employees are left to flounder helplessly, without any means to learn or improve. In the 3 years I have worked here, they have NEVER offered any training on the main database used (Banner), the HR/Payroll system, or really anything else, for that matter. Everything I know I had to glean from struggling and failing, and desperately pleading for help from other overworked employees who have since quit.

Pros

Highly recommended if you don't have a better option

Cons

The bum place: overwork, poor benefits and salary, travel between two campuses to teach - at your expense, unless you take a chance with the unreliable shuttle

Pros

Benefits are reasonably priced. Most employees are very good to work with. Tuition reduction for employees. Campus is nice , they are finally upgrading rooms and will be very techy soon.

Cons

Senior leadership team. Some departments give huge raises, most do not. If you are unlucky you will get a co worker that takes off all the time and you you have to do their work. Professors travel more than teach. Wages are not consistent across campus. Your salary depends on your department. Lots of nepotism as far as the new merge of 2 campuses. Westville administrators take care of their employees only. We are told major deficit but spending in departments is crazy !!! And the spending on art? Really? Millions spent. on art around campus. Love art but this is not an art school.
