Downward Spiral

Pros

-Usually positioned as a leader in Gartner's magic quadrant for data discovery. -Good office location in Radnor, PA. Right next to the train station. -Operations and finance teams were supportive of the sales organization.

Cons

-Qlik is in a downward spiral that can be traced back to the botched Qlik Sense product release years ago, followed by decreasing stock price which led to a PE buyout, which resulted in lot's of layoffs as one would imagine. -Despite being a leader in Gartner's quadrant, Qlik is barely talked about in the marketplace. Almost no US brand presence whatsoever. -Product-wise, Qlik is slightly above average. They try to compete with the stack vendors (MS, SAP BOBJ, IBM, etc.) as well as smaller, agile data discovery products (Tableau, Domo, etc.), which results in a company/product suite with an identify crisis. They never seem to have all of the requirements in one product, and are constantly stitching together workarounds that hardly integrate the way you would expect them to. This led to a "we do that too" sales culture promoting a bunch of untested workarounds which led to very unhappy customers who were spending 5x on external services to make "out-of-the-box" and "user-friendly" features work. -Qlik missed the boat on a true cloud hosted product and a subscription model which led to Power BI eating their lunch. They continue to double down on "Associate Search" because it's their only unique feature, but the market wants a cloud hosted solution with monthly billing and Qlik is multiple years late to that party. -QlikView's support will end soon and the majority of their install base is using this product. -Over the past 3 years Qlik's best sales managers and reps have exited to move on to new companies and they've been replaced with very junior employees with little to no enterprise IT sales experience. Qlik is a technical sale because again, all of the workarounds and bad licensing model, so these new sales folks really struggle and rely on the channel to close deals for them.

Pros

Buy buying companies, they have a great set of products for their field to sell. Some nice people that actually care about the business.

Cons

Too many to count. They are an old-school company and not a tech firm. There is NO diversity at the top and many of the leaders treat underlings like chattel or hired help. They keep cutting and cutting because their PE owners keep telling them to (and they keep the cheapest people - not the best ones). Run away from this place! They are bleeding people left right and center. There is no investment in career advancement and the pay is well below market. They will not IPO - they will end up being sold to another data firm and get absorbed into them and the CEO will make a windfall.
