Pros

Great doctors who are willing to work with new grads, had a great preceptor who taught me well. Getting to know the patients and families and seeing the progress overtime is well worth it, up to a point. If you have good friends in your coworkers, teamwork is great.

Cons

Too much is expected of the nurses. Heavy need patients, and too many patients per nurse. Most PCTs cannot be trusted to do their work, and many are hiding or lazy, putting everything on the nurse. No support from management on this. A weak unit manager never will have your back.

Pros

Usually good teamwork and experience. Twelve hour shifts. Can work at Hinsdale when census drops and you get cancelled every other week.

Cons

No support from management. Work every other weekend and if you call off on a weekend are required to work another weekend to make it up. Favoritism with scheduling. Major exodus of all management, some supervisors, 2 out of 3 nurse educators and human resource staff at Chicago. High acuity unit with less staff, no extra pay = more work. Short staffed with majority of staff either new grads or less than 1-2 years experience. Some lazy people. RT's don't help at all. In house MD's that don't have emergency background or know ACLS protocols.
