Pros

Lots of new and emerging technology to learn and grow with, a fast-paced environment that presents a never-ending list of challenges.

Cons

The worst leadership I've encountered in this industry so far. Tons and tons of broken promises of promotions, raises, career growth opportunities and learning experiences with absolutely no follow through. There were quite a few employees working for this company that had been there years without any form of raise, merit increase or promotion, which is both shocking and unprofessional. A complete and utter lack of organization from management down created a sense of chaos that never seemed to get any better, only worse. Absolutely zero on the job training, even on newly introduced technologies, with employees expected to train in their personal time, and pass that training onto newly hired staff members. There is zero accountability company-wide, with people willingly throwing others under the bus (most notably, the sales team cannibalizing the tech team in order to appease customers). Documentation is sparse and sporadic at best, the workload is far too much for the staff, and instead of addressing the issues at hand, management's answer is to hire new inexperienced staff members at the bottom-level to throw at the problems with a hope that the experienced and skilled technical staff members will train them, rather than addressing all of the glaring issues with process and documentation, or creating a true training program to insure the company sees the employee growth it seems to want.

Pros

Since the Cox acquisition in August 2018 - PTO, insurance, and 401k benefits became much better. The 401k matching was probably the best benefit. Lunch gets catered on Friday. If you're entry-level and want a good jumping off point, this is the place for you. I really enjoyed my direct teammates and working with them everyday.

Cons

You're going to get overworked, no doubt about that. The expectations of your role will be so broad, that you're inevitably doing something wrong. Management has no real idea or direction with their changes; and restructures seem to be the answer to every service and departmental problem. It's also a social club, so be prepared to play the game of "small office culture" where everyone is "family" to try to fit in. If you're someone who speaks up, don't work here. Your feedback and suggestions won't be seen as anything other than disrespect and challenging authority. People are quitting faster than they can backfill. Most of this is due to continuous fake promises, leading employees on, and unfair/unethical treatment. Other employees who had left recently also experienced a similar process. And if you ever do make a mistake, prepare for that to be held against you for as long as you work there. Over the changes, it remained constant that some of management were the most unprofessional people I've ever worked for and worked with. Incredibly hot-headed, knee-jerk reactions, gaslighting, and scare tactics aplenty. Sometimes it happened publicly where myself and other employees were punished, criticized, humiliated, and called out by name in front of others. It's an HR lawsuit waiting to happen. Your salary won't match what you do, or what you could be getting somewhere else. The "budgeting" magically gets in the way when it comes time for raises, promotions, or hiring skilled and essential employees. The current trend seems to be hiring the least experience labor for the cheapest price, while ignoring the retention of the higher-tiered employees they'll inevitably depend on. I suppose there's a belief that they can be trained into higher roles, but most of them have little or no experience relative to cloud environments. All of it to me points to the model of a corporate call center. In short - over-promised, overworked, and under-delivered.

Pros

They buy lunch on Friday's.

Cons

Highly unethical company, both to vendors and employees alike to the extent of being borderline illegal. They have paid for reviews on this site, prior to them paying for reviews they were 1-2 stars on their rating. Beware of the facade of a fun company culture because there is not one at this place. Compensation is ok, however benefits are terrible. No 401k plan, minimal employer contributions, etc. The senior management is either blind or does not care about employees, the CEO has no clue what he's doing or how to run a business. If you can get in with the right crowd, you'd do ok, if not (which is most employees) you will be miserable. CIO promotes unethical decisions and tries to micromanage all aspects of the business. Is very combative and difficult to work with.

RapidScale Response

We're sorry that you didn’t advance your career and/or meet your desired career goals while here at RapidScale. RapidScale was once a startup company that grew quickly, thanks to the hard-working colleagues that you most likely were. Startup environments are certainly not for everyone, and I regret that we couldn't make it work for you. As of August 2018, RapidScale is owned by Cox Enterprises, a $20B family-owned company that has won numerous employee satisfaction awards, in addition to the “Best Work Environments” award RapidScale won in 2017. Since the acquisition, we’ve added numerous additional benefits for our employees that can only come with the size of a $20B company, including unrivaled healthcare coverage, 401k matching, unlimited PTO, and much more. In addition, our senior management team has grown and changed immensely since this feedback was provided, and we’ve added many seasoned C-level business leaders who today help run the business. We are still entrepreneurial, operating inside of the Cox ecosystem, but no longer function in that ever-changing startup mode that many thrive in, but that may not have been the right fit for you. Thank you for taking the time to express your concerns. We meet weekly to improve the culture here and are always looking to get better. Your feedback has been invaluable in making us a better company.
