Pros

- A broad variety of requirements from day to day - Animals in the spring and summer - Pet-friendly stores - Associate discount is pretty nice - Easy to pick up experience with a wide berth of products in a relatively short time

Cons

- Brutal and unforgiving corporate management personalities; i.e. former Wal-Mart leadership - Extremely high stress and pressure imposed upon store management, salaried and hourly alike - Almost non-existent official training. When training is delivered, it is only mildly useful - Low pay, low bonuses - Long, highly physical work hours. It is normal for salaried management to work 60+ hours in a week with no reward or basic acknowledgement for extra contributions to store operations

Pros

Always hiring, easy to get "a job".

Cons

Pay is barely above minimum wage. The "raises" are insulting (.12 to .18 cents per hour after a YEAR!). General manager is vindictive and vengeful if you step out of line or just personally tick him off. A lot of ex-Walmart cut-outs the coudn't make the grade at Walmart working as management here. Turnover rate extremely high- about 75% in the 6 months I've been here. Stores are horribly understaffed- they want to see how much blood they can squeeze from as few employees as possible and still make a fat, greasy profit! Employees are totally expendable- massive "lay-offs" after Christmas (fired) to cut costs. But, yet the corporate shirts fly to the individual stores in a helicopter that lands out in the parking lot like some third-word strongman trying to impress the little people. The place is dirty and dusty- you freeze in the winter and sweat in the summer. Live-video security spies on you all day long from the corporate bunker and calls your manager if your shirt isn't tucked-in! There is absolutly NO feeling of "investment" working here- it is just a part-time, crappy job until you find something (ANYTHING!) better. I had a great attitude when I started- now, I hate having to come into this place. You WILL learn to HATE Rural King if you work here.
