Pros

Very nice property, makes you proud to work for Sheila Johnson and her vision of a top resort. Co workers were very dedicated in the kitchen and front of the house

Cons

Upper management treated their employees like they were objects, without any valuable real communication, everything was scripted and no one excepted blame for not really being equipped with man power, and even equipment to run a successful operation on that grand scale People had to work overtime on a weekly basis, drive over 30 minutes to an hour+ daily without any real time off until they closed the restaurant on Monday and Tuesdays then you were sometimes forced to work in another outlet you were not familiar with and expected to deliver 5 star service. Other department managers were always meddling and pointing fingers without being team focused or solutions oriented. HR handled disciplinary issues like Roger Goodell handled Tom Brady. I was unfairly treated there because the managers were constantly demanding and never listening I was mentioned for positive experiences by many guests who dined in the restaurant, and had a hand typed letter praising my service and menu knowledge and yet was admonished for things I had very little control over.

Fine establishment but high turnover and poor management

Pros

- Nice place to humblebrag to friends and family - Still growing so it's possible to develop and get promoted within the Salamander brand (extending to Tryon in North Carolina soon) - Though there are issues behind the scenes, the guests usually don't feel it and experience a positive time at the resort. - High volume of business year-round

Cons

- Still focused on making return and therefore business trumps all, as opposed to the relaxed, generous atmosphere of more established luxury hotels. - Understaffed, high turnover due to poor management in some departments - Because of location, many employees are young and inexperienced when it comes to luxury hospitality and sometimes, unfortunately, common sense

Pros

The majority of the employees are wonderful. The property is beautiful, especially the Spa.

Cons

Too many: Executive leadership is too focused on winning Forbes, and no attention is given to the "Brand Promise" of *Delivering excellence to service professional (employees)*. There is no *Demonstration of preparing, empowering or developing employees, as cited in "The Salamander Brand Promise*. Employees are treated as disposable commodities, which is really sad. The employee cafeteria, as well as the back of the house corridors and offices are inundated with flying insects.
