Pros

I can't think of one!

Cons

This is more of a cautionary tale than a list of cons. Please read this before accepting an offer from them. I had a bad feeling about it, but ignored my gut, and I wish I hadn't. The first red flag happened when I accepted my offer. I was given 24 hours to accept or decline, which is a quick turnaround. This made it weird when I did not hear back from them after accepting for 4 days. I re-pinged the email and they realized they had forgotten to include my email on the recipient list of my onboarding email! Somewhat careless, but also an easy mistake. I let it slide. I would say the onboarding process went relatively smoothly. When I completed it, I was told that my start date at the school was October 2nd at 8am. Then, I was directed to someone else and told that they would reach out to me with further dtails. I waited for an introduction for days and eventually reached out to them myself. To this day, I never heard one word from them. Honestly, I do not think they are a real person who exists. So, October 2nd rolls around and I show up to my first day of work because that was the start date I was given and I have not heard anything else. I meet with the administrators of the school, go over my schedule, and am about to meet my first batch of students, when I get a phone call from SmartStart Education telling me the program has not been approved, I am not allowed to be at the school, and to please go home. I communicated this to the school administrators and swiftly departed. SmartStart apologized for forgetting to alert me that my start date had changed (at this point I began to wonder if forgetfulness was a requirement to work here). So, not only was that a total waste of my time (on top of the hour I spent at the school, I spent over an hour commuting), but it was also a SECURITY RISK to STUDENTS to have a random adult wandering around their school. Later that day, I got about four different emails with conflicting updated start dates. Then, a week later, they told me they actually could not confirm my start date and that I should not report to the school until I "here" back from them. Maybe this is silly, but that spelling error really was the last straw for me! It was in the main sentence of the email. They had taken the time to bold it. And they couldn't even check that the words were spelled correctly. It just summed up the whole thing pretty well. They gave me bad news and they gave it to me sloppily. At that point, I told them I could not continue with the position. In their final email response thanking me for letting them know, they referred to me by a nickname I don't even go by.
