Pros

The I.T. organization I work in is the worst run environment I've experianced in my career. We have twice the number of employees as similar organizaions and are probably half as effective. There is no vision, no long term strategy, and the organization as a whole simply drifts from one failure to the next. It is very good at successfuly failing and unless there is accountablity for the huge sums of money that is being wasted, there is no end in sight.

Cons

I totally recommend this organization for a short exercise and educational experiance to understand how bad and inefficient things can get in a poorly run operation with no executive accountablity or oversight.

Pros

Incredible opportunities to learn and work with some of the best of the best. Decent pay for the area.

Cons

Very dysfunctional work environment and a lot of un-qualified senior management who rose to high positions not based on merit but on who they knew. HR cannot be trusted. Stanford does not let internal candidates know that management jobs are open and they do not promote from within unless you know someone. Jobs are mostly filled without internal candidates being aware that some positions are open. Most of Stanford's IT Directors do not put patient care first. They encourage back-stabbing and unhealthy competition among staff. It is a lion's den and not a "fun" place to work. It is a "cubicle" environment. They pretend to care about promoting professional growth unless it threatens their own positions. Stanford does not care about work/life balance. You will work harder than you have ever worked before. They believe that it is a privilege to work there so they are not concerned about employee turnover.
