Pros

Pay is good with the opportunity to make a decent monthly and annual bonus if you can figure out how to be profitable, which I did. I made great and lasting relationships with my team.

Cons

-Very little training. -Very little, if any appreciation. -Nepotism is very prevalent from top to bottom. If you’re not a part of the family in some way, it can be tough to feel welcome. -Management is more likely to “throw you under the bus” than coach you and help you when needed. -As mentioned in the title, the company hierarchy is an organized mess. There are people with supposed “authority” that tell managers what to do or they “will hear from George about it” then local and corporate management don’t follow up or show interest what these “authority figures” tell you to do. The corporate Directors, in my experience, are uninvolved, disinterested, and unsupportive. -Monday morning manager meetings are fluffy with little content, zero accountability, negative, and have little to no value. I would walk out of most of these meetings feeling confused, frustrated, and almost demotivated. -Ownership (not George) is over involved and controlling. I was told at one point by ownership that an employee appreciation lunch was not necessary because “that’s why people get paychecks.” I did the lunch any way. -Employees are allowed to go straight to ownership rather than having face to face, professional conversations with people. Essentially, tattling is tolerated and almost encouraged. I experienced this on a personal level more than once. -Watching other people treated so poorly by leadership made it difficult to sleep at night. -Company goals, mission statement, outlook, and overall company health is not discussed. -Quarterly meetings were good to talk with and associate fellow managers. These meeting however lack any substance. We talked about numbers but did not get in to any details about who is performing or who is underperforming. This further shows lack of accountability. -I was never given 1 evaluation or review, and not given a raise in my almost 2 years with Transwest. -Overall my experience was financially out performing every other department on the operations side of the business and still treated very poorly.

Pros

It's very difficult to find a pro.

Cons

The accounting department and it's policies and way of dealing with customers costs the company untold amounts of business. Each branch location has it's own managers but they have no authority or power whatsoever. Everything must be approved by the upper management which leads to a huge disconnect between what needs to happen and what actually happens. Sales people are governed with an iron fist. Huge amounts of micromanagement and ridiculous amounts of computer work required to be done in a very specific, inefficient, and time consuming way. Management seems to care more about how you input all of your notes than what you're actually doing. Company maintains a top-down philosophy that the customers are in business for them instead of the other way around. Employees also exhibit the lowest amount of morale and loyalty that I've ever witnessed in my career. Basically, it has the worst people management and top brass that I've ever worked for. Also, the numbers that each branch are required to do are unrealistically forecasted. Branches in larger metropolitan locations have no trouble meeting and exceeding their quotas while locations in smaller markets struggle to even come close. This goes for the managers and sales people too. Sales reps from smaller markets are expected to achieve the same sales numbers as reps in large metropolitan areas, which is an exercise in frustration and futility.

Thank you for your input. Transwest is growing very rapidly, and while I can't speak to your referenced experiences (three years later), I can say there is an effort to grow and develop processes that can be utilized in across new acquisitions and branches. From the acquisition perspective, it can be difficult to adapt to and learn new ways of doing things. From the corporate perspective, it is important to streamline as many activities as possible for maximum efficiency, cost reduction, and brand development. At Transwest, our initial goal is to develop the talent we do have and grow from within our (and our acquired) ranks. It isn't our goal to fire anyone without first working with them to grow. Your input is appreciated and will help us as we refine our culture moving forward!
