Pros

Pay, training, benefits, 401k, opportunity for advancement without having any college education

Cons

It’s like a cult, seriously. You have to play the game very carefully and never go against the directors (who got promoted back when the goals were super easy and could never hack it as a store manager today). Play along and follow the training step by step and you can go from making $10/hour to $60k a year in just a few years. BUT - you have to let go of your conscience. For example: they grossly mark up premium oil changes because research shows the customers will just blindly pay the cost, and you have to maintain premium oil change sales above 65%. But seriously, it is like a cult. They get young people to buy into Valvoline being their family (we call it Vamily)… and then you see people with family’s working 50, 60, 70 hours a week putting the job before their actual loved ones… and then they throw people away like trash once they get burnt out. I’ve seem so many of my peers get used and termed after putting in 5, 10, or 15 years of their life because they made a small mistake or because they did what their boss told them to do but then their boss throws them under the bus to save their own skin. So like I said, have thick skin and pretend like you’re brain washed and you can survive like I have and make good money without having a degree.

Pros

Good Benefits Advancement Opportunities Good way to enter automotive field

Cons

Scheduling is a nightmare You have set $0.50 raises, to a maximum of $16.50, $16.50 is nowhere near enough for the amount of work you have to do. If you are sitting or taking a break when you have no customers you are threatened with write ups Not allowed to hit 40 hours, I was limited to 35 Corporate makes you stand outside with a sign if you have no guests, its demeaning, have had guests complain about us standing outside in freezing temperatures. Corporate is completely out of touch with stores Corporate is extremely strict, to the point where you feel like you're a child Corporate will TREAT you like a child Filling out get to know you's in a notebook (again, treated like a child) Constantly understaffed and expected to keep bay times BELOW VIOC requirements (VIOC requires 15 min bay times, we were told to keep bay times 13 min or less) Was typical for me to be placed solo in the pit with 3 running bays You will only have the minimum people required to keep the store open on the weekend (3) even though it can get just as, if not more busy.
