Pros

Decent benefits Some great coworkers suffering with you An ethical company from the perspective of clients Great mission statement due to the efforts of the deceased founder, Jack Bogle

Cons

Four words: high volume call center. Truly a place where happiness goes to die. Angry clients...VERY angry clients. Every moment of your day is tracked and monitored. Zero trust. Obsessed with applying lean manufacturing principles to a service center (i.e., treating employees like machines). Low pay compared to industry peers. Recent COLA increases are an obvious attempt to correct years of salary neglect. Inequitable promotion practices. Your boss will likely be a recent college graduate with very little managerial experience. If you stay long enough, you will see questionable hiring and promotions. Take note: hard work and competence are inconsequential to career advancement. Cronyism controls your career. Toxic office politics with alarmingly high turnover. Company frequently appears in news articles highlighting the poor treatment of employees, most recently highlighting the firm's decision to eliminate certain retirement benefits in an attempt to cut costs. They have since reversed the decision thanks to the negative publicity, with the CEO issuing a mea culpa.

Pros

Vacation Time, Benefits, Employer Match for 401k plan, Learning and Development

Cons

I feel they care more about the bottom line then they do their own employees. An example of this was the 1300 crew that were outsourced to Infosys last year. I can definitely see that if an employee is in a department or cost center as Vanguard calls it and it's a cost to the business Vanguard will eventually outsource the roles to a cheaper but not always better vendor.
