Pros

The staff and coworkers are great!

Cons

Terrible managers who are rude, and act like you don't know what you're saying even if you're the one who trained them. No room for advancement as they would rather hire from the outside. No merits or benefits for performing your job well. Very minor pay increases, but not enough to really cover the cost or living (all while the President is making millions and getting increases). Employees are leaving quickly, and the remaining employees are being required to pick up the slack with no additional pay or reduction of other duties (they are also reprimanded if they start to fall behind even slightly despite the increased work load). The FA teams are very much overworked, under appreciated, and under paid.

Pros

Overall, the department that I work in, has a warm, collaborative culture. I believe the people around me are committed to helping others advance in life by earning one's degree.

Cons

Political and hierarchical structure. Large, complicated bureaucracy. Compensation on the administrative level is often below industry standards.

Pros

Job security, State benefits, holidays, leave/vacation time.

Cons

Low pay, slow to no real advancement, increasingly expected to perform new duties in addition to current job role responsibilities without additional compensation. Staff constantly inform leadership/management that they are overworked, underpaid, and has voiced the same concerns for years--if lucky, concerns will take months to be officially recognized yet nothing is ever done to alleviate them. There is currently a mass exodus of very qualified, dedicated, and eager staff leaving the University after years of no or very minimal (1-3% every other year) cost of living adjustments that do not keep pace with increased costs in the area. The problem is compounded further by having remaining staff perform additional duties to maintain institutional stability with little or no increase in compensation--causing those staff to burn out even faster and seek employment elsewhere themselves.
