      Pros

      There are some amazing people that work here, as well as a decent health insurance plan.

      Cons

      Virginia Tech operates closer to a business than a higher education institution and will always value the bottom line more than anything else.

      Pros

      Wonderful people and strong sense of community across campus. Beautiful work environment and you receive nice benefits as a full time employee. Professional development is also strongly encouraged and widely available.

      Cons

      Opportunities for advancement within your own department are rare. Raises are also rare and modest (usually just a cost of living increase). Also, regularly worked 60 to even 70 hr/wk for a few years before I received full time assistance, though time off was flexible (but only when we weren't busy, which was almost always).
