Pros

Some of the benefits of working at Walmart Global Tech are: - Base salary is pretty good for the area - Additional cash benefits (stock awards and bonus) are nice - The scale at which you work is great - it's not every environment that offers so many opportunities for writing apps that run at such a large scale - There's a lot of technology in use, so there a lot of niches to explore - With the size of the organization, there are a lot of internal opportunities

Cons

Some of what I'll say is dependent entirely on the area you are in and the manager and leadership team in charge. I'm about to change teams, but here's my list of cons based upon the area I'm leaving: - Leadership is all but obsessed with bringing in expensive West Coast outsiders to tend to be poor culture fits, especially for leadership positions. - Leadership plays a lot of favoritism games - there is a "Circle of Trust", and if you (or your team) is not in it, forget about promotions - Progressing beyond a certain level in your career can be very challenging - you are often given far more scrutiny than an external hire. It's not uncommon to fight to get promoted, only to be forced to accommodate an external hire for the higher-level position. - West Coast-based leadership at the director level and above is HIGHLY biased toward that geographical area.

Pros

They have some kindness in their PTO

Cons

They make you work overnight because of IDC collaboration which is in India time, and they also expect you to be working over the weekend because of a deadline driven environment. The pay is so low compared to the amount of work you put in. For example if they make you work over the weekend and make you work 12 hour days to sync with people at india time then your not really paid as a software engineer but rather close to a minimum wage job. ASKING YOUR MANAGER FOR A PROMOTION IS LIKE THEM RESPONDING WHY ARE YOU ASKING THIS. MOST HORRIBLE COMPANY I HAVE EVER WORKED FOR.

Pros

Great Pay, immediate managers are great. The work allows for outside life, I don't feel we are overworked, or overstressed. We have good time off policies.

Cons

2 months ago I would have given rave review to work for Walmart. But recently, out of the blue, we were told we either had to move to home office or get new work. Very few exceptions were granted. This happened right after we were all told that we should fill out the "Great places to work" survey. Of course everyone thought it was a great place, so we were awarded that. Now that we are either being let go or forced to move the work place is completely different. The meetings have a very morose feel to them. Morale is down. I imagine at some point it will improve, but right now everyone is almost depressed. Even those with exceptions to stay remote are feeling the pain. And now, we are told that we have to go in to the office 3 days a week instead of 2. I am afraid at some point we are going to be full office or find new work. It hasn't happened yet, but that is the trend and the feel of what is happening. And it feels like leadership doesn't care about how the workers feel, how immediate management feels, how much work is being done (or not being done as is the case for when we go in to the office). They want to fill the huge campus they just spent billions building. Even though they are losing some amazing workers because they were forced to decide to not move a thousand miles away from their family, needlessly I might add.
