Pros

Amazon customers, in general, are the nicest and kindest people I have known or met in the USA. This is exceptional and I don't think most people know that part of the job of Amazon Delivery Driver. As far as our DSP, the owner, managers, and driver leads of Williams Last Mile Home Logistics, an Amazon DSP (Delivery Service Partner), are some of the best managers I've ever worked for in my varied employment career. Williams Last Mile Home Logistics as an Amazon DSP is under-rated, in my opinion. They literally go the extra mile to make sure any given day is not the last mile of my career as an Amazon Delivery Driver. I have advanced university degrees, and have worked as a Business Analyst and E-Commerce Analyst in both a corporate and manufacturing context for 20 years now this year, 2025, but enjoy the job due to the physicality of the "business analyst"-like environment. I personally think the job of Amazon Delivery Driver is under-rated, and still underpaid by about $10K or more. This is not the fault of Williams. Williams accommodates our personal needs and challenges as best that they can within the limitations of the Amazon DSP structure. They should make their company ambitions to be a national DSP over time.

Cons

All of the downsides of working for Williams Last Mile Home Logistics arise from issues with Amazon, or neighbors or other criminal persons who are not Amazon customers, and never once because of Williams DSP. These include: 1) Unethical, negligent, or criminal neighbors of customers, not the customers themselves. These individuals sometimes do not restrain their dogs. In the case of criminal persons, they steal the packages after we deliver to our customers. Obviously, this is not the fault of Williams, nor Amazon, but the drivers suffer as a result. We get blamed for packages not delivered. We get attacked by dogs, or frequently nearly attacked by aggressive dogs (never cats, fish, or other pets). That is a con, but it also is an incredible life skill to learn in-practice how to defend yourself from aggressive dogs that builds confidence and optimism like one learns in martial arts training; 2) We are not paid enough by Amazon. Williams has done a lot to accommodate our wages within their limitations. Amazon is the one at fault with this negative part of the job, and has still not mandated a national base pay of $30/hour for all Amazon Drivers following the example of the Amazon Drivers Union. Amazon ought to follow the benchmark of the unionized drivers, and raise the base pay to $30 for all Amazon Delivery drivers. The job of an Amazon Delivery Driver should be recategorized as "Physical Business Analyst" or a similar term since it is exactly the same kind of work I was doing as a Business Analyst except with the added physicality of the job. The salary should be equal to the low end of the salary of a Business Analyst in Dayton, OH where we are located (Vandalia, OH) of $68,027.79 at the time of this review in January 2025. And so, $30/hour is a step towards achieving this correction. The long-term benefit will be better long-term drivers who make this a career and increased corporate stability. This is not even close to being a "low-end job" and from my perspective and experience, all of my colleagues who are drivers and driver leads for Williams are under-rated; 3) Amazon should take into account the route preferences for each individual Amazon Delivery Driver. Google AI reports that “research suggests a strong correlation between concentration and happiness.” A happier driver is a better driver and a driver that can concentrate better to avoid safety incidents, to maintain accurate delivery, and to improve speed of delivery, etc. Amazon Delivery Driver happiness in correlation to each specific route should be reported on a daily basis by the Amazon Delivery Driver in the Amazon Flex App with a question at the end of the day, “Did you like this route, yes or no?” Or “On a scale of 1 to 10 how much did you like today’s route?” Amazon should then make this data available to Amazon and DSP’s and assign Amazon Delivery Drivers to the routes with the highest “Happy Place” score (to borrow the phrase from Happy Gilmore) for each individual driver (also funny). This is so easy to fix, and so completely irrelevant to Amazon -- about what route an Amazon Delivery Driver is assigned to for any given day -- that it is an untapped source of success for Amazon, for DSP’s, and for Amazon Delivery Drivers. Then with the help of integrated database systems, the “Happy Place” score for each route should be correlated to the driver, adding in where individual driver performance is highest on any given route, and adding which specific route has the highest rate of financial return for Amazon as a company. This can be achieved with integrated database systems, and Amazon Delivery Driver’s “Happy Place” score for each route. There needs to be some comedic element involved here also to lighten the daily burden of the Amazon Delivery Driver and to increase work satisfaction for Amazon Delivery Drivers. The solution and its implementation of this downside of Amazon Delivery Driver dissatisfaction with the routes they are assigned to is not dependent on Williams Last Mile Home Logistics. This is a complex relationship between individual DSP’s and Amazon. This has to be fixed to make our jobs as drivers easier and more enjoyable. Amazon has to make the effort to assign us to routes that we enjoy and that also yield the highest financial benefit to Amazon.
