Pros
Retention is high, Willmeng doesn’t appear to do layoffs or staff up/down for projects. They seem methodical in their approach to risk and which projects they feel comfortable having in their backlog.
Cons
My time with Willmeng was just confusing, they hired me and seemingly forgot I existed. I was there for almost a year and despite asking for more work on a regular basis, I ended up scrounging for things to do the majority of the time. Communication is awful all around and made the little bit of work I was given almost impossible due to not being able to get information. Willmeng was a very small company up until recently, and if you’re new and people don’t know who you are they just flat out won’t respond to you. Everyone works in their own little bubbles and if you’re not part of that bubble, good luck getting a response. It’s not ironic that Willmeng calls their departments “silos” because that’s exactly how it feels working here. The amount of “culture” talk here is beyond excessive. It reached fever pitch within a month of being there. Having a good culture is a positive thing, but Willmeng talks about it so much that it very much has “if we say it enough then it’s obviously true” vibes. The confusing part is that I didn’t see anything at Willmeng that you couldn’t get anywhere else. The benefits package is mediocre at best, you’re not allowed to work from home full time and retirement is subpar compared to a lot of places in the industry. I kept waiting for an “aha” moment as to why Willmeng was “the best” but I just never saw it. That’s not to say Willmeng is a bad company, they’re not. There’s just nothing special here.
