Not for those with career ambitious

Pros

Low expectations, low accountability, no pressure, no deadlines, come in collect a paycheck, never get fired. Decent vacation/sick day accrual.

Cons

Their "non-profit" label is an excuse to not pay market value salaries, or anywhere close. I say "excuse" because the executives make a bundle, but the other ~1400 employees make sub-market. That attracts the unambitious - those that are otherwise unemployable, those that lack experience or skills, and those that want to come in to a low-stress environment, do the minimum required, and earn an easy paycheck. This leads to high churn, and an inability to attract and retain qualified talent, while retaining only the lazy squatters. The execs are there to look after themselves and protect their cushy jobs and high salaries, at the expense of the powerless middle management. Execs make rash autonomous decisions, then blame the underlings when (surprise!) they don't work out. There's no career development, no structure, no mentoring, no training, no forecasting or departmental goals...no future!

Great Place to Work

Pros

It is incredibly fulfilling. You fall in love with the clients and if you have a good attitude it's not even work. It's 8 hours of play, if you are lazy and don't want to do things like go to field games or swimming or concert or dances and community trips you won't like it and your clients will suffer. Great benefits, great PTO.

Cons

Some employees bad attitudes, normal amount of cliques and gossip. Lower than average pay for professionals. Tuition reimbursement only 2,000 a year. No 401 K match. If you are a nurse you have to be ready to make your own decisions and work independently. People will help but you have to ask for it. Low stress levels normally so long as you are laid back, if you make everything a big deal you will go crazy.

Pros

There are a lot of wonderful caring and compassionate people who live, work and come to Woods. The families are amazing and honestly care about their loved one who lives there. I built several great life-long relationships while working at Woods.

Cons

The directors play favorites and there is really no room for advancement. The directors haven't worked directly with any of the individuals for over 25 years and they don't understand the dynamics of what actually goes on in the units.
