Pros

Mission and field work is inspiring. Amazing people work here.

Cons

CEO is an "expert" on everything and does not allow true subject-matter experts to speak into processes or business decisions. Leadership lies constantly-- saying one thing, but doing and meaning something else. CEO and Senior leaders constantly use their faith/religious behavior as weapons in business meetings. Many Senior leaders are out of touch with reality and current business practices. CEO should be casting vision and breaking down barriers, not micromanaging his department leaders. Work follows you home. Work/Life Balance does not exist. Stress levels are high.

Pros

- Inspiring mission and work helping millions of vulnerable children across the world - If you look hard enough, you can find a committed (small) group of colleagues who are fun, bright and working hard to keep World Vision relevant in a rapidly changing sector - Massive network (45K+ employees) and highly reputable brand builds a solid platform for your next career move - Salary, benefits and flexible hours are quite good, especially for a nonprofit.

Cons

Old-school hierarchical culture keeps open communication, innovation and the ability to pivot quickly near zero. Lack of transparency from uninspiring, often short-sighted senior leaders. Regular layoffs and budget cuts lead to near constant "restructures" within teams and departments. Little to no effort is made to engage employees in strategy or decision-making, even when changes significantly affect their entire portfolio of work. Politics, bureaucracy and maintaining the "status quo" are alive and well. Low morale is ubiquitous. Overall a disappointing and sometimes outright bizarre experience working for the largest faith-based relief and development organization in the world.

Pros

Depending on the department, generally very flexible work environment Free parking Global reach Regularly promote from within

Cons

Rampant travel to conferences and other regional junkets Exec. leadership comprised mostly from private sector without a development background After the March 2014 incident no one was fired. Although sponsorship dropped off a cliff - none of the exec. team lead by example by taking pay cuts. Roles invented for senior those who have been with the org for a long time who want a change Not a friendly working environment for progressive Christians Very little evidence that the development models work
