Lack of Growth Opportunity and Institutional Gridlock
Pros
Winter Recess, Free health care (for non-managers), job security (unions), faculty members are excellent leaders/people, VERY stable for those that are complacent and happy to come do a job for 30 years and have no issue with just coming in to "do the job".
Cons
Not all it is cracked up to be. Horrible culture, entitled, elitist attitude throughout, absolutely contagious negative mindset "Well you know how it is here, you can't do anything right, so why bother at all?" No regard for personal development "You should be so lucky as to be an employee here" attitude. Meetings with multiple recruiters and still no upward mobility. Career services gives it to you bluntly, "you don't have the experience for this" but expects you to stay in an entry level job(s) for years with very limited advancement opportunities (or planned trajectory). Employees that have tenure will not leave, creating a very scarce/highly competitive job market for those looking to grow. This is not an institution for high performers unless you are a faculty member.
